Tech Lead – Flights Booking
Summary
We are seeking a Team Lead for the Flights Booking domain, owning mission-critical booking flows that power Wego’s OTA. This role combines technical depth with product engineering leadership, working across Product, Design, Business, and Data to co-create a reliable, scalable, and customer-friendly booking experience.
You’ll operate with high agency, driving strategy and execution while mentoring engineers and raising the bar for excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Engineering Leadership
- Co-create the product strategy and roadmap with Product and Design.
- Optimize for business impact while improving booking reliability.
- Operate with high agency — proactively identifying opportunities, driving decisions, and owning outcomes across engineering and product.
- Technical Leadership
- Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team, fostering a safe and collaborative environment.
- Shape the architecture of complex systems and get hands‑on with system design and coding.
- Own production APIs/services with a focus on scalability, reliability, and fraud prevention.
- Maintain system reliability through on‑call rotations and incident response for mission‑critical booking flows.
- Ensure best practices in application security and data compliance.
- AI Fluency
- Use modern AI coding assistants (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code, Windsurf, Copilot) to solve large problems, stepping in mainly to guide and correct.
- Review and validate AI output to ensure correctness, maintainability, and quality.
- Encourage team adoption of AI tools to boost productivity and reduce toil.
- Team Development
- Drive team productivity through coaching, facilitation, and 1:1s.
- Hire and grow a high-performing engineering team.
- Actively monitor engineering processes to identify and resolve bottlenecks.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of software engineering, including 2+ years in technical leadership roles.
- Proven leadership skills with hands‑on experience in:
- Containers (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Cassandra).
- Caching (Redis, Memcached).
- Strong CI/CD experience.
- Proficiency in Java, Go, or modern frontend frameworks (React, Angular, Vue).
- Familiar with monitoring/observability tools (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
- Strong understanding of system architecture, scalability, and reliability best practices.
- Track record collaborating across Product, Design, and Business.
- AI fluency: daily use of coding assistants, with the ability to review and validate output.
- Strong product mindset: turning business/customer needs into technical outcomes.
Our Ideal Candidate Will
- Create order out of complexity, aligning stakeholders and engineers.
- Be empathetic and supportive of engineers and stakeholders.
- Perform well under pressure and manage time‑sensitive incidents effectively.
- Demonstrate strong follow‑through and accountability.
- Value frequent, high‑quality releases and short feedback loops.
- Focus on solving customer problems rather than simply fulfilling requirements.
- Communicate effectively: active listening, facilitation, coaching, leading meetings.
- Bring experience in OTA or travel tech.

- Learn systems and initiatives, both technical and operational.
- Contribute hands‑on in planning, coding, reviews, and releases.
