A leading manufacturing company in Malaysia seeks a Supplier Management Engineer to act as a liaison with welding and fabrication suppliers. The role involves monitoring welding processes, ensuring compliance with standards, and conducting site visits to maintain quality and progress. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or related engineering fields and 3-5 years of relevant experience. Strong communication, problem-solving, and project management skills are essential for success in this position.
Act as the primary liaison between the company and welding/fabrication suppliers.
Monitor and manage suppliers’ welding activities to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and welding standards.
Track supplier progress and ensure projects are completed according to agreed schedules and delivery commitments.
Conduct regular supplier site visits to supervise welding progress, workmanship, and capacity.
Review welding documents including WPS, PQR, welder qualifications, and fabrication plans.
Identify potential risks in supplier delivery, quality, or capacity and take proactive corrective actions.
Coordinate with internal Engineering, Quality, Procurement, and Project teams on supplier performance and project status.
Support supplier issue resolution, including rework, delays, and non-conformances related to welding.
Maintain proper documentation, progress reports, and supplier performance records.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers to improve welding quality, efficiency, and delivery performance.
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in welding, fabrication, supplier management, or project engineering roles.
Solid understanding of welding processes (e.g. MIG, TIG, ARC), fabrication workflows, and mechanical drawings.
Experience managing or coordinating external vendors / suppliers, preferably for outsourced welding work.
Knowledge of welding standards and codes (AWS, ASME, ISO, or equivalent) is an advantage.
Welding certification or inspection background (AWS, CSWIP, or equivalent) is an advantage.
Strong ability to manage timelines, track progress, and follow up on supplier commitments.
Willingness to travel to supplier sites as required.
Good communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
Able to work independently and manage multiple suppliers or projects concurrently.
