General Description Of Position

The objective of a confinement Staff Nurse is to provide comprehensive care and support to postpartum mothers and their newborns during the confinement period, typically the first few weeks after childbirth. The nurses in a confinement center are expected to promote the health and well‑being of postpartum mothers and newborns during the critical postnatal period.

Duty and responsibilities
  • a) Monitoring Health: Nurses monitor the health of postpartum mothers and newborns, including vital signs, symptoms of complications, and overall well‑being.
  • b) Assessment and Evaluation: They assess the physical and emotional status of mothers and babies, identifying any signs of distress or complications.
  • c) Providing Care: Nurses provide hands‑on care such as assisting with breastfeeding, diaper changes, bathing, and administering medications or treatments as prescribed.
  • d) Educating Patients: They educate new mothers on topics such as newborn care, breastfeeding techniques, postpartum recovery, and signs of potential health issues.
  • e) Supporting Families: Nurses offer emotional support and guidance to new mothers and their families, addressing concerns and providing reassurance during the postpartum period.
  • f) Collaborating with Healthcare Team: They work closely with pediatricians, lactation consultants, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for mothers and babies.
  • g) Maintaining Records: Nurses maintain accurate medical records, documenting assessments, interventions, and patient progress.
  • h) Emergency Response: They are trained to respond effectively to medical emergencies that may arise during childbirth or the postpartum period, providing immediate care and coordinating with other healthcare providers as needed.
  • i) Promoting Wellness: Nurses promote maternal and infant wellness through health promotion activities, such as encouraging proper nutrition, rest, and exercise.
  • j) Ensuring Safety: Nurses ensure a safe environment for mothers and babies, identifying and addressing any potential hazards or risks.
Job Qualification/Specification
  • With or without working experience in confinement centre. Training will be provided.
  • Good attitude and responsible, demonstrate good personality, good communication skills, and problem‑solving.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive nursing knowledge and skills. Able to educate, guide and coach the mother and family members.
  • Registered with the Malaysian Nursing Board.
  • Passionate, dedicated, and willing to be on‑call to assist clients or staff after duty hours.
  • Able to work on day shift, night shift, weekend and public holiday.
  • Ability to converse effectively in English.
