Job Overview

The Data and Devices Business Unit is seeking a Senior R&D Product Development Engineer (Mechanical) to design and develop socket, high-speed connector, and cable assembly solutions.

You will be responsible for the design, analysis, documentation, prototyping, and validation of new products from market definition through production release. This includes working closely with customers, internal teams, and vendors to deliver practical, innovative, and cost-effective mechanical designs.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead product development of socket, high-speed connector, and cable assembly solutions from concept to production.
• Collaborate with customers, TE Product Managers, Sales, and Field Application Engineers to gather Voice of Customer (VOC) requirements.
• Translate VOC into design conceptualization and preliminary product specifications.
• Perform feasibility studies, mechanical, and thermal simulations.
• Present engineering evaluations and proposals to customers.
• Create detailed 2D/3D designs; conduct DFMEA and tolerance analysis.
• Build prototype samples and perform validation testing.
• Finalize product qualification and specifications.
• Provide technical support to Operations, Quality, and Production teams for safe and efficient product launch.
• Manage and resolve product issues; handle Engineering Change Notifications (ECN) and Product Change Notifications (PCN).
• Foster strong communication between TE and customer engineering teams.
• Maintain system-level understanding of customer applications and requirements.
• Follow LEANPD project process; support projects through stage-gate reviews ensuring timeline, quality, and budget adherence.
• Work with global manufacturing teams, procurement, and external suppliers to meet technical, quality, and cost targets.
• Generate and manage technical documentation (design drawings, change notices, history files, etc.).
• Provide DFMEA, engineering analysis, troubleshooting, and technical support to internal and external stakeholders.

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
• 8+ years of relevant experience in mechanical design of electrical components or mechanical assemblies, including:
• Socket or connector design
• Manufacturing tooling (stamping, molding, plating, assembly)
• Strong knowledge in:
• Tolerance analysis
• DFMEA
• GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
• FEA tools like ANSYS or Workbench (occasional use)
• Understanding of:
• Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
• Basic manufacturing processes (machining, molding, stamping, plating, assembly)
• Excellent communication skills in English (verbal & written)
• Able to work with global teams across time zones
• Strong problem-solving skills with data analysis and critical thinking
