We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Project Director to act as the internal strategic authority for a large-scale Life Extension Programme (LEP) hydropower infrastructure project.
This role is not site-based execution, but a strategic governance, commercial assurance, and risk-protection leadership position. You will function as the internal gatekeeper, ensuring that all technical, contractual, and commercial decisions made by external project directors, consultants, and international consortium partners fully align with corporate risk appetite, financial targets, and long-term business objectives.
Key Responsibilities

- Act as the final internal reviewer for critical submissions, technical variations, and strategic correspondence to clients and consortium partners.
- Deliver independent project risk assessments and executive dashboards to the CEO and Board, beyond standard technical reporting.
- Safeguard the company’s contractual position under FIDIC 1999 (Yellow Book).
- Manage contractual notices, claims, and instructions to minimize commercial exposure.
- Oversee consortium governance and ensure company interests are protected in Management Committee decisions.
- Proactively mitigate joint and several liability risks with international partners.
- Monitor financial performance against Board-approved budgets and target margins.
- Review and approve major Variation Orders (VOs) and procurement strategies.
- Oversee bank guarantees, performance bonds, and securities to ensure timely renewal and risk avoidance.
- Establish and monitor KPIs for project management consultants, subcontractors, and key vendors.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, schedules, quality, and safety standards.
- Mentor and groom internal project team members in mega-project governance and infrastructure delivery.
- Institutionalize project knowledge through SOPs and structured “Lessons Learned” frameworks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Law, Finance, or Business.
- Professional certifications such as P.Eng, PMP, or equivalent are preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 20 years’ experience in large-scale infrastructure, power, or EPC projects.
- Proven leadership at Director / Principal level on projects valued RM500M – RM1B.
- Strong expertise in FIDIC contracts and international consortium / joint venture management.
Leadership & Personal Attributes
- Strong executive presence with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- High integrity and commitment to governance and ethical standards.
- Excellent analytical and commercial judgement.
- Ability to translate complex technical matters into clear executive-level risks and decisions.
