Job description

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Senior Manager of Business Development to drive the growth and expansion of our hospital business. This pivotal role is responsible for developing and executing business strategies to increase market share, revenue, and profitability. The ideal candidate will identify new service lines, forge strategic partnerships with corporates, insurers, and international agencies, and enhance our referral networks. You will be a key driver in transforming our commercial landscape and ensuring sustainable growth in a competitive market.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Strategic Growth & Market Share Expansion (35%)

Conduct comprehensive market research to identify trends, opportunities, and competitive threats within the northern private healthcare sector.

Develop and implement the hospital's annual and long-term business development plan.

Launch new clinical service lines and medical specialties based on market demand and feasibility studies.

Spearhead initiatives to expand geographical reach, including satellite clinics, ambulatory care centre.

Analyze patient demographic data and referral patterns to optimize service offerings and marketing strategies.

Strategic Alliances & Key Account Management (35%)

Corporate & Insurance Tie-ups: Develop and manage relationships with key corporate accounts, insurance companies, and third-party administrators (TPAs) to secure attractive service agreements.

International Patient Program (IPP): Lead the IPP segment by building relationships with medical tourism agencies, embassies, and international insurance providers to attract patients from target regions (e.g., Indonesia, Cambodia, Singapore, Indochina etc).

Referral Network Development: Cultivate and strengthen relationships with general practitioners (GPs), specialist clinics, and other healthcare providers to build a robust and sustainable referral pipeline.

Partnerships & MOU: Negotiate and formalize Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) and contracts with strategic partners.

Commercial Excellence & Revenue Optimization (20%)

Collaborate with Finance and Heads of Department to develop competitive and profitable pricing strategies for packages, corporate deals, and international patients.

Monitor key business performance indicators (KPIs) such as bed occupancy rate, specialty development, patient volume by source, and market share.

Analyze the profitability of various service lines and partnerships, recommending improvements or discontinuations as needed.

Work closely with the Marketing & Communications team to align BD strategies with branding and promotional campaigns.

Leadership & Stakeholder Management (10%)

Lead, mentor, and develop the S&M team.

Act as a key liaison between clinical teams (doctors, department heads) and commercial operations to ensure alignment on growth initiatives.

Prepare and present detailed business cases, performance reports, and strategic recommendations to the Senior Management Team.

Represent the hospital at industry conferences, networking events, and with key stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience
Required:

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Healthcare Management, or a related field. An MBA or Master’s is highly advantageous.

Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in business development, strategic marketing, or key account management, with at least 5 years within the private healthcare/hospital industry in Malaysia.

Proven track record of successfully developing and securing corporate/insurance panel agreements and growing referral networks.

Deep understanding of the Malaysian healthcare ecosystem, including regulatory bodies (MOH, MSQH), health financing, and insurance landscape.

Strong financial and business acumen.

Exceptional negotiation, communication, and presentation skills in English.

Established network within the corporate, insurance, and medical communities in Malaysia.
