Position Summary
The Senior HSE Engineer is responsible for providing HSE support to all STERIS Malaysia business units including the implementation site risk assessments, statutory compliance, and STERIS HSE requirements. Work closely with local management and functional teams to lead, communicate and ensure the delivery of the HSE strategy with the objective of making and keeping the business safe against existing and emerging health and safety, and environmental risks.
Duties
- 1. To be the HSE subject matter expert for STERIS Malaysia and work closely with site’s HSE Coordinator.
- 2. Provide expert guidance in planning, organizing, and implementing HSE best practices for all relevant workplace stakeholders.
- 3. Conduct regular and systematic safety inspections of machinery, processes, equipment, substances, and other safety-related elements in the workplace.
- 4. Report inspection findings professionally and transparently, including observations of unsafe conditions, unsafe acts, and potential hazards identified by workers at all levels.
- 5. Develop and recommend site to implement risk mitigation actions based on inspection outcomes.
- 6. Leading thorough investigations with the site HSE committee into workplace incidents, including accidents, near misses, dangerous occurrences, occupational diseases, and poisonings, in accordance with JKKP 6, 7, or 8 formats and DOSH requirements.
- 7. Report investigation results and root causes with integrity, professionalism, and transparency.
- 8. Propose and support site on implement corrective and preventive actions based on investigation findings and root cause analysis.
- 9. Coordinate HSE-related programs and activities, including annual training plan as required.
- 10. Conduct post-program reviews to gather feedback and identify areas for improvement.
- 11. Attend and facilitate Safety and Health Committee (SHC) meetings in compliance with regulatory requirements for all sites on monthly basis, including timely follow up on pending actions.
- 12. To organize and lead the Environmental Performance Monitoring Committee (EPMC) and Environmental Regulatory Compliance Monitoring Committee (ERCMC) meetings to ensure sites aligned with Environmental Mainstreaming Tool from DOE.
- 13. Prepare and submit all required HSE reports in a timely manner, including but not limited to: Occupational Safety and Health Officer Report, Monthly OSH Management Report, Safety and Health Record Reports.
- 14. Lead the implementation on ISO14001 & ISO450001, including legal register, compliance documentation, including the development, maintenance, and enforcement of manuals, SOPs, and other related documents.
- 15. Execute HSE initiatives and standardization efforts as directed by corporate management.
- 16. Provide support to internal audits, management reviews, and external audit processes related to HSE.
- 17. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to maintain updated Emergency Response Team (ERT) competency, ensure emergency equipment is in good condition, and ensure renewals for Fire Certificates from each site.
- 18. Work with site team to engage with external stakeholders such as DOSH, DOE, police, hospitals, and local councils to coordinate emergency response planning across mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery phases.
- 19. Ensure sites timely renewal of machinery Certificates of Fitness through the MyKKP system.
- 20. Ensure records related to Chemical Safety Management and Scheduled Waste in compliance with regulations.
- 21. Ensure risk assessment is implemented and enforced in all units involved in chemical handling, storage, transportation, and disposal.
- 22. Responsible for collating utility utilisation and waste stream data for ESG team reporting.
Education & Experience Required
Bachelor’s Degree is required.
Work Experience Requirements
- 1. Experience with internal HSE management systems and compliance audits
- 2. Experience in implementing HSE programs
- 3. Ability to build relationships and lead cross-function team members indirectly
- 4. Experience with multi-site operations.
- 5. Experience in managing and maintaining Safety and Health Management Systems (ISO 45001) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001).
