Job summary

A leading engineering consultancy in Malaysia is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to apply advanced expertise in geotechnical practices. This role involves leading analyses and designs while mentoring junior engineers and ensuring compliance with codes. The ideal candidate will have 8-15 years of relevant experience in the oil & gas sector, possess a degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering, and be proficient in geotechnical software. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • 8-15 years’ experience in oil & gas with major contractors/consultants, focused on detailed design.
  • Professional Engineer or Chartered status (or pursuing) with ICE or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of offshore foundations and numerical modelling preferred.

Job description

The Senior Geotechnical Engineer applies advanced expertise to elevate geotechnical practices across AIS projects in Asia. Acting as a technical mentor and problem-solver, this role leads analyses, designs, and team efforts on complex projects, ensuring compliance with codes while collaborating across disciplines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct conceptual/FEED studies, detailed analyses, designs per project specs, codes (e.g., Eurocode 7), and standards.
  • Lead geotechnical teams on small projects and mentor junior engineers.
  • Perform geotechnical calculations: pile capacity/group response, foundations (gravity/shallow), earthworks, seismic/dynamic analysis.
  • Interpret ground investigation data (boreholes, CPT, etc.) and derive design parameters.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, contract documents, and risk mitigation for geohazards (liquefaction, scour).
  • Manage time, budgets, and deadlines; communicate complex issues to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with foundation, structural, and other disciplines; liaise with clients, vendors, and project leads.
  • Support numerical modelling with software such as SLOPE/FE tools and for offshore foundation design.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 8-15 years’ experience in oil & gas with major contractors/consultants, focused on detailed design.
  • Professional Engineer or Chartered status (or pursuing) with ICE or equivalent.
  • Expertise in design techniques, codes (Eurocode 7, national standards), ground investigation, and lab testing.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical software (PLAXIS, SLOPE, FE analysis) and MS Office.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, communication skills, and ability to work independently or in teams.
  • Knowledge of offshore foundations and numerical modelling preferred.
