Job description

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Database Administrator in Malaysia.

In this role, you will help design, scale, and operate the database platforms that support mission‑critical, high‑traffic systems used globally. You will work closely with senior DBAs, SREs, and engineering teams to ensure performance, reliability, and security at scale. The role goes far beyond routine maintenance, focusing on distributed database systems, automation, and platform‑level improvements. You will contribute to modern infrastructure initiatives while reducing operational friction through smart tooling and self‑service patterns. The environment is fully remote, highly collaborative, and ownership‑driven. This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on systems that underpin large‑scale, real‑time financial technology.

Accountabilities:
  • Scale, tune, and operate high‑throughput MariaDB environments supporting global products and services
  • Design and continuously improve high‑availability, backup, and disaster‑recovery strategies
  • Reduce manual operational work by building automation and improving consistency across database workflows
  • Enhance observability by defining meaningful metrics, improving alert quality, and reducing operational noise
  • Strengthen database security through disciplined access controls, patching, upgrades, and safe operational practices
  • Contribute to platform initiatives including containerized environments, infrastructure as code, and reproducible deployments
  • Partner with engineering teams to improve performance patterns, operational readiness, and database hygiene
  • Participate in on‑call rotations with a focus on preventative engineering and long‑term reliability improvements
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience operating MariaDB or MySQL in high‑volume production environments
  • Strong understanding of high‑availability architectures, replication, and distributed database behavior
  • Experience with database proxies or load‑balancing technologies such as HAProxy, ProxySQL, or similar
  • Practical experience with CI/CD, GitOps, and infrastructure‑as‑code workflows, ideally using Terraform
  • Solid Linux, cloud infrastructure, and networking fundamentals
  • Experience building container images and operating workloads on Kubernetes at scale
  • Strong security mindset around access control, upgrades, and operational safety
  • Proven expertise in monitoring, alerting, and incident readiness
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to document systems and align work to KPIs
  • Bonus points for SRE practices, scripting or programming skills in Python or Rust, GitOps tooling, or multi‑region architectures
  • Interest in cryptocurrency, blockchain, or decentralized systems is a plus
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation package aligned with international market standards
  • Fully remote work model with global collaboration
  • Opportunity to work on large‑scale, high‑impact systems with real‑world usage
  • Strong focus on automation, reliability, and engineering excellence
  • Inclusive, diverse, and merit‑based work culture
  • Long‑term growth opportunities within a globally distributed engineering organization
