Job Description

NCS is looking for a Senior Data Scientist to address challenging data science problems by discovering information hidden in vast amounts of data using techniques in statistics, machine learning, and data mining. The data scientist will work closely with business users, project managers, and database engineers to develop sophisticated analytics algorithms that provide actionable insights. The role requires being a trusted adviser to clients in conceptualising advanced analytics solutions and enabling their journey in data science.

On regular workdays, the candidate will serve as a Project Executive within NCS’s project management team, supporting another project.

Responsibilities

• Translate customer pain‑points into problem statements and architect analytics solutions
• Present results and learnings to technical and non‑technical audiences
• Manage full lifecycle of data cleaning, preprocessing, feature engineering, modelling, and deployment
• Validate models with statistically sound justifications for selection and performance
• Build and deploy efficient and scalable advanced analytics models in production
• Design and develop visualisations and dashboards to explain actionable insights
• Contribute to data architecture engineering decisions to support analytics
• Work with project managers and leads on status reporting and solution evaluation
• Collaborate in interdisciplinary teams using waterfall or agile methodologies
• Mentor and upskill peers and juniors and contribute to internal networks

Qualifications

• Post Graduate Degree in Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Business Analytics or equivalent
• 5 years’ experience in advanced analytics delivery or equivalent academic exposure for interns
• Strong knowledge in feature selection and extraction across varied data types
• Competency in supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques
• Solid understanding of statistics, NLP, simulation, and optimisation
• Proficiency in Python or R, and Apache Spark or similar scripting language
• Experience with data visualisation tools such as Tableau, Qlik, Plotly, or ggplot2
• Experience with machine learning model deployment using Docker or Kubernetes
• Ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a concise and actionable manner
• Skilled in manipulating and analysing complex, high‑volume, structured and unstructured data

Additional Experience (Optional)

• Experience in Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Cloudera, Hadoop, Spark, or Storm
• Familiarity with associated tools such as Pig, Hive, or Mahout
• Experience with DevOps tools in analytics project delivery
• Experience in application or software development and design
• Exposure to deep learning and reinforcement learning
• Experience in implementing graph database analytics
• Knowledge of database modelling and data warehousing concepts
