JOB TITLE: Senior Accountant

DEPARTMENT: Finance & Accounting

REPORTS TO: Finance Manager - Malaysia

BurdaLuxury is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support the finance operations of our two legal entities in Malaysia. Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role will act as the technical accounting lead within the finance team, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records and statutory reporting.

This role is critical in maintaining strong financial controls and accuracy, particularly across revenue recognition, general ledger management, tax compliance, and audit support. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, external auditors, and tax advisors to ensure all financial activities are carried out in line with regulatory requirements and company policies.

As Senior Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting and reviewing the work of the Finance Executive, supporting the month-end close, maintaining high-quality balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting the continuous improvement of accounting processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Revenue accounting and invoicing
  • Ensure revenue recognition is aligned with signed client contracts and internal booking systems
  • Issue and manage client advertising invoices, including uploading invoices to agency and client portals where required
  • Ensure revenue recognition is aligned with signed client contracts and internal booking systems
  • Maintain accuracy of accrued income and deferred income schedules
  • Prepare and review customer ageing reports and work with the sales team to ensure timely cash collection.
  • Calculate monthly commissions for sales team members.
General ledger and month-end close
  • Own and update monthly audit and balance sheet schedules, including accrued income, deferred income, cash advances, intercompany transactions, and suspense accounts.
  • Prepare/review and post accounting transactions, including payment vouchers, journal vouchers, and accrued and deferred income.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of month-end postings.
Cash, payments, and operational support
  • Prepare monthly bank statements and verify reconciling items.
  • Maintain and reconcile petty cash in accordance with company policy
  • Review and verify staff reimbursement claims.
  • Support the Finance Executive as required with the preparation of vendor payments.
  • Support the Finance Manager in the preparation of monthly cash flow forecasts.
Tax & statutory compliance
  • Prepare and review SST submissions and supporting schedules.
  • Supporting withholding tax and royalty-related compliance requirements.
  • Liaise with external auditors and tax agents and maintain the required supporting documentation.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Education and experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance-related field
  • 5+ years’ experience in accounting or audit.
  • Proven experience managing billing cycles, reconciliations, and month-end tasks in a fast-paced services environment.
Skills
  • Skilled in using accounting software and Excel for routine financial tasks. (Microsoft Dynamics Business Central is a plus)
  • Ability to review financial entries with precision and maintain clean records.
  • Good understanding of local tax and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Clear communication when coordinating with internal teams or auditors.
  • Strong organisational skills with high attention to detail, able to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
