Overview
The Associate Account Director helps oversee and manage the overall efficiency and revenue growth, development, and profitability of multiple accounts. They provide inspiration and strategic vision for the account team, ensuring all departments work together to deliver a consistent level of agency product and service delivery. They also help identify client business needs and develop successful solutions, delivering satisfaction and value to clients while driving revenue growth for the agency.
Responsibilities
- To the Client/Brand
- Keep clients informed of project status and handle their requests promptly and thoroughly.
- Establish credibility as a business advisor to senior-level clients by demonstrating industry knowledge and recommending sound initiatives.
- Anticipate needs and identify trends before the client recognizes them.
- Build professional and personal acceptance with each client contact, especially at the senior level.
- Make sound recommendations about involving senior management to strengthen client relations.
- Conduct agency reviews that illustrate capabilities and successes in meeting client goals.
- Recognize and analyze client signals of concern and take corrective action.
- Create and produce artwork for multiple client accounts.
- Direct multiple design initiatives and teams.
- Lead and manage creative teams.
- Ensure brand and design consistency across initiatives.
- Present concepts, design treatments, storyboards, and completed work to internal and external clients.
- Assume additional concept/design projects as required.
- Show initiative, teamwork, and the ability to work under pressure.
- Ensure goals and expectations are understood and aligned with the client.
- Follow up on client concerns to verify resolution.
- Ensure execution excellence in client delivery.
- Monitor external environment, highlight key issues/crises, and inform senior management of implications.
- Maintain regular client contact.
- Build client receptivity to innovative advertising and secure executive-level acceptance for new proposals.
- Strategic Responsibilities
- Ensure proper training and guidance for juniors beyond day-to-day needs.
- Collaborate with the Account Director and client executives to establish long-range goals and strategies.
- Help senior account managers understand the perspective of client senior management.
- Assist in leading strategy development for account teams, giving specific direction when needed.
- Ensure senior account managers effectively use creative, media, and research resources.
- Gain client acceptance of proposed strategies at the executive level.
- Alert senior management to new information that may affect client relations.
- Financial Responsibilities
- Maintain an in-depth understanding of the financial status of the account at all times.
- Ensure appropriate resourcing and clarity of roles among team members.
- Manage account profitability and maintain agreed fee income.
- Create opportunities for growing existing business.
- Analyze client budgets and agency cost reports to keep costs within budget and recognize variance risks.
- Keep un-billable expenses minimal and approve them only when they comply with the agency’s financial system.
- Advise clients on efficient use of budgeted funds.
- Resolve invoice disputes and prevent recurrence.
- Management Role
- Ensure staff ownership and responsibility for project delivery.
- Identify near-term opportunities for new assignments and monitor progress.
- Organize annual internal review and client appraisal work with senior management.
- Assist in new-business pitches by recommending analysis and developing presentations.
- Ensure team understanding of client personalities and profiles.
- Periodically reassess client relations and agree on specific objectives and plans.
- Lead and motivate the team to fulfill their potential.
- Identify training and development needs for effective learning and motivation.
- Recruit and select personnel with the right skills and experience.
- Handle problems independently while recognizing when higher management assistance is needed.
- Participate in meetings to review performance and develop improvement plans.
- Review effectiveness of presentations and client meetings.
- Ensure procedures for gaining assistance from other departments minimize conflict.
- To the Creative Department
- Create an environment that motivates the creative team to deliver innovative concepts.
- Generate enthusiasm and commitment among all creative personnel.
- Ensure clear assignment descriptions and necessary information for effective completion.
- Distinguish between formulaic advertising and truly effective advertising.
- Collaborate to agree on inter-departmental procedures that meet standards efficiently.
- To the Media Department
- Develop sound media strategies through collaborative brainstorming.
- Ensure all media schedules and deadlines are met.
- Contribute to effective media strategies that create competitive advantage.
- Propose new initiatives and share learnings.
- Agree on inter-departmental procedures that minimize conflict.
- To the Traffic Department
- Negotiate realistic deadlines.
- Plan and allocate resources when briefs and deadlines are tight.
- Ensure optimal outcomes when encountering problems.
- Collaborate to identify efficient use of agency and external resources while minimizing costs.
- Agree on inter-departmental procedures that minimize conflict.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years experience in the advertising industry.
- Self-driven, results-oriented, and positive outlook with a clear focus on efficient project delivery.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to motivate through written and spoken media.
- Strong principles in project management, organization, digital marketing, and technical production.
- Proficient computer skills, including digital multimedia, file handling, and internet technology.
- Competent in evaluating and communicating creative strategy and rationales.
- Ability to engage in face-to-face and telephone communication and demonstrate passion for creativity.
- Leadership skills and people management experience to enable high output from design and campaign projects.
