Job Summary

The Scorekeeper/Gym Attendant is responsible for operating the scoreboard and keeping an accurate scorebook during contests and the supervision of gym and game activity during league play.

Essential Functions

• Properly and accurately operate scoreboard and scorebook during youth and adult basketball games.
• Arrive in advance of activities in order to open/unlock, and help prepare gym/facility for athletic events and games.
• Monitor and maintain gym during games – help with cleaning spills, dirt, etc. and organize team and spectator seating.
• Communicate with contracted officials for league and game expectations.
• Have necessary equipment and first aid equipment present in gym, complete appropriate safety forms as needed and dispense first aid supplies as necessary.
• Performs the job safely and in compliance with Batavia Park District policies, procedures, work and safety rules.
• Represents, supports and exhibits the established organizational values of the Batavia Park District to all volunteers, staff, fans and participants.

Education and Experience

This position requires a person currently in high school or older and has interest or background in sports, specifically in basketball. Must be able to multitask, operate scoreboard, and pen/paper scorebook during intense situations.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

This job is performed in an indoor gym environment with basketballs, spectators, and whistles. The majority of time is spent sitting at the scorer’s table operating the scoreboard and keeping track of the scorebook. Physical demands include setting up and taking down of the gym before and after games and occasionally lifting and moving items weighing over 50 pounds.
