Requirements
  • 2 - 4 years of overall experience as a pediatric nurse.
  • English & Bahasa Malaysia (Fluent), Mandarin (may need to liaise with Mandarin-speaking students) is an added advantage
  • Knowledge of healthcare for students and staff, and preferably some experience being a nurse in a school setting.
  • Knowledge of health screenings
  • Able to provide referrals to private healthcare providers
  • Able to liaise between school personnel, family, and community healthcare providers to ensure a healthy school environment
Responsibilities
  • Nursing Duties (75%)
    • Developing plans for student care based on assessment and any interventions
    • Monitoring and organising immunisations
    • Managing communicable diseases
    • Assessing the school environment to prevent injury and ensure safety
    • Overseeing infection control measures
    • Actively participating in school safety plans that address school violence, bullying, and emergencies that may occur at school
    • Managing medication administration and health care procedures
    • Managing the development of healthcare plans
    • Overseeing vision, hearing, physical development, and mental health screening procedures
    • Making decisions related to the delegation of healthcare tasks as directed by state laws and professional practice guidance
    • Providing health advice to school educational teams, such as the Committee on Special Needs children
    • Assisting families with locating outside care and obtaining health insurance
  • Medical Assistance / Emergency:
    • Provide nursing care, first responder and first aid measures to students and teachers as needed. Be available to provide to any onsite visitors
    • Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, liaising with the school counsellor
    • Initiate emergency procedures for students, staff or onsite visitors as needed
    • Provide medical support on and off-site for school activities and events
  • Medical Record Management :
    • Document patient care services by charting in patient and department records
    • Maintain confidentiality of patients’ information/records
    • Directly communicate with the Principal regarding any medical problem of students, teachers and other staff members
    • Communicate with parents through discussion with the School Principal
  • Teaching and Learning (25%)
    • Providing health-related education to students and staff in both individual and group settings
    • Provide as necessary health related education to parents
    • Participating in the PSHE programme and taking responsibility for the Health Education throughout the school
    • Liaise with the Red Crescent organisation and the students who are part of the Co-curricular uniformed activity
    • Provide basic First Aid training for students who join this CCA
    • Provide support and information to staff on conditions such as diabetes or epilepsy as necessary
    • Provide information leaflets, posters, etc. for the school to promote healthy lifestyles
    • Any other task or project as assigned by the Management from time to time.
