The Resident Medical Officer will be responsible for the initial assessment, diagnosis, stabilization, and management of acute and emergency cases across all age groups.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Clinical Duties
- Perform initial triage and clinical assessment of all emergency patients.
- Manage acute and life‑threatening conditions including trauma, cardiac events, respiratory distress, and other emergencies in accordance with established protocols.
- Carry out emergency procedures such as wound suturing, splint application, IV access, airway management, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
- Order and interpret necessary investigations (laboratory tests, ECG, imaging, etc.).
- Initiate immediate treatment and stabilization measures.
- Attend to emergencies or procedures required in wards or other designated areas as required.
- Respond to code blue calls or rapid response alerts.
2. Referral and Admission Protocols
- No independent admitting rights: The Resident Medical Officer is not authorized to admit patients.
- All cases must be discussed with and referred to the appropriate consultant or specialty team for further management and admission decisions.
- Ensure proper documentation and communication of case summaries, management provided, and recommendations before handover.
3. Coordination and Communication
- Liaise effectively with nursing staff, specialty units, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Ensure appropriate and timely escalation of complex or deteriorating cases.
- Maintain clear and thorough documentation of patient care and referrals in the medical records.
4. Administrative and Legal Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and complete patient records, including referral notes and follow‑up instructions.
- Comply with all institutional policies including medical ethics, infection control, consent, and patient confidentiality.
- Participate in audits, clinical governance, and departmental quality assurance initiatives.
5. Education and Development
- Attend departmental training sessions, case discussions, and CME programs.
- Participate in simulation exercises and emergency drills.
- Support the orientation and supervision of all staffs where applicable.
6. Others
- To undertake other duties and responsibilities as delegated.
