Job description

Quality Control & Compliance

Ensures construction adheres to approved design drawings, building codes, and material specifications. Monitors workmanship to prevent defects, rework, or non‑compliance with standards (e.g., structural integrity, waterproofing, finishes). Resident Engineer must sign all inspection forms.

Real‑Time Problem Solving

Resolves unforeseen technical issues (e.g., design conflicts, site conditions) immediately to avoid delays. Provides on‑the‑spot decisions for minor design adjustments without halting progress. Acts as the bridge between the design team (architects, engineers), contractors, and the client. Facilitates clear communication to align expectations and prevent misunderstandings.

Documentation & Progress Monitoring

Maintains daily logs, inspection records, and progress reports for accountability. Verifies that work milestones align with the project schedule.

Cost Management

Reviews contractor claims for variations or delays to ensure they are justified. Prevents unnecessary cost overruns by catching errors early. Familiar with contract administration on construction and consultant implementation (e.g., PAM, PWD, IEM conditions of contract). Familiar with authorities’ liaison on project implementation for development. Responsible for ensuring all Safety and Health guidelines and governance are strictly adhered to. Familiarity with tendering process and possesses an analytical and business mind during recommendation and award. Capable of providing value engineering input and alternative solutions to save time and cost. Someone with critical and innovative thinking skills.

Technical & Analytical Skills

Familiar with using Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Primavera and AutoCAD software.

Requirements

A recognised degree in Civil Engineering with 8 to 10 years of relevant experience for Resident Engineer (RE). Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers, Malaysia will be preferred. Having experience in high‑rise property with deep basement structures and infrastructure construction works including but not limited to bridge structure, road widening, underground services relocation, etc will be prioritized. Registration with the Board of Engineers, Malaysia (BEM) is compulsory. Prefer to have candidate with short notice. Proven success in managing and delivering complex construction projects on time and within budget.

Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulations. Excellent communication skills for efficient liaison with consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and staff at all levels. Demonstrated experience in building and developing a strong and successful team. Effective problem‑solving and conflict resolution abilities. Results‑driven, proactive, and detail‑oriented in construction quality.
