A leading engineering firm in Malaysia is seeking an experienced Project Controller to oversee project schedules, monitor progress, and ensure compliance with budgets. The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of experience in Project Controls and a Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Strong knowledge of project management tools like Power BI and Primavera P6 is essential. Develop detailed project schedules including Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), activities, milestones, and deliverables.
Establish and maintain baseline schedules and update progress in accordance with actual site performance.
Perform Critical Path Method (CPM) analysis to identify schedule risks and critical activities.
Integrate schedules from engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning into a consolidated master schedule.
Review contractors’ and subcontractors’ schedules and assess alignment with overall project timelines.
Project Control & Monitoring
Monitor project progress against approved schedule and budget, highlighting deviations and potential risks.
Conduct schedule, cost, and productivity analysis to evaluate project performance.
Track key project performance indicators such as SPI, CPI, planned vs actual progress, and forecast completion dates.
Prepare and maintain project dashboards for management review.
Assist in developing the project budget, cost breakdown structure, and cost control procedures.
Monitor project expenditures, commitments, and cash flow against approved budgets.
Prepare cost forecasts, Estimate at Completion (EAC), and variance reports.
Support the evaluation of variation orders, claims, and change requests in terms of cost and time impact
Reporting & Documentation
Prepare and submit accurate weekly, monthly, and ad-hoc project reports to internal and external stakeholders.
Consolidate progress data from various disciplines and project sites.
Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping of project schedules, cost reports, and planning data.
Maintain version control and audit trail for all planning and control documents
Stakeholder Coordination
Liaise closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Procurement, Finance, and Site Teams to ensure alignment of project plans.
Support project meetings by providing planning and control inputs, including look-ahead schedules and progress analysis.
Coordinate with external parties such as consultants, contractors, and clients on planning-related matters.
Compliance & Governance
Ensure project planning and control activities comply with company policies, procedures, and contractual obligations.
Support audits and management reviews by providing accurate planning and cost control information.
Promote best practices in project planning, reporting, and controls across projects.
Other Responsibilities
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to project controls and planning processes.
Provide guidance and support to junior planning or project control staff, where applicable.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Head of Department from time to time.
Education and Experience Requirements
Minimum eight (8) years experience in Project Controls for medium to large-scale projects, covering planning, cost progress, risk and recovery.
Bachelor Degree in Engineering / Construction Management or equivalent from a recognised institution.
Proven hands-on experience in EPC/EPCM projects, with familiarity in FIDIC-based contract, variation management and EOT support.
Preferred functional exposure: Analytical and Strategic Thinking
Project Management Report Writing,
Proficiency in Power BI for data analysis and executive dashboard development, including data modelling and automated reporting for management use.
Strong command of Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project, with advanced excel and integrated reporting capability.
Demonstrated experience in risk, recovery and forecasting, including delay analysis, mitigation planning, recovery scheduling and etc.
Exposure to District Cooling System (DCS), utilities, energy or process plant project will be an advantage.
Experience in brownfield rehabilitation and live-plant operational environments will be an added advantage.
