A leading local engineering firm in Malaysia is seeking a Production Costing Engineer to prepare and analyze product cost estimates, support month-end closing activities, and collaborate cross-functionally to gather accurate cost data. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, or a related field, with 2–5 years of experience in costing and production engineering. Strong analytical skills and proficiency in ERP systems are essential for this role.
Prepare and analyze product cost estimates based on BOM, routing, labour, and overhead.
Review manufacturing variances and identify root causes (material usage, labour efficiency, machine downtime).
Conduct cost simulations for new products, design changes, and process improvements.
Maintain and update standard costing in the ERP system.
Support month‑end closing activities related to production costing.
Reconcile actual production cost vs. standard cost and highlight variances.
Prepare cost reports, margin analysis, and profitability studies for management review.
Ensure compliance with internal control policies and audit requirements.
Collaborate with Production, Engineering, and Supply Chain to gather accurate cost data.
Evaluate manufacturing processes to identify cost‑saving opportunities.
Monitor material consumption, scrap, and wastage levels to ensure accuracy of reporting.
Participate in productivity improvement initiatives (Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma).
Assist in annual budgeting and forecasting for production cost, overheads, and capex.
Provide input for cost assumptions, labour requirements, and production efficiency targets.
Evaluate financial impact of process and production changes.
Maintain product master data: BOM, routing, cost centres, labor rates, and overhead absorption.
Validate production transactions and ensure data accuracy in the ERP system.
Generate costing and production efficiency reports using ERP and BI tools.
Work closely with Finance, Production, Engineering, and Procurement teams to ensure accurate costing.
Support new product introduction (NPI) costing and project feasibility studies.
Provide cost training or guidance to non-finance team members when needed.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
2–5 years of experience in costing, manufacturing, or production engineering.
Strong analytical and numerical skills.
Experience in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, BAAN, or similar).
Knowledge of manufacturing processes, BOM, routing, and cost accounting principles.
Proficiency in Excel and data analysis.
Ability to work independently and collaborate across functions.
