Overview

An exciting opportunity exists in our growing ERM Climate Advisory team in Southeast Asia. This is a Principal Consultant, Climate Change role within ERM’s regional Southeast Asia Team to lead a portfolio of projects for ERM’s key corporate clients in Malaysia, Southeast Asia and beyond.

This is a senior role, where the candidate will need to be a team leader for a team of 6-8 consultants in Malaysia, a thought leader in promoting climate change topics internally within ERM and among stakeholders in Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region (corporates’ executives, project developers, government agencies, etc.). The candidate will engage with ERM’s business development teams and leaders across Asia Pacific to maintain existing client relationships as well as grow new client portfolios, contributing to the growth of ERM’s opportunity pipeline. This requires strong communication skills, client/market understanding and proposal development capabilities.

Responsibilities
  • Leading projects’ implementation: Act as a technical advisor/leader for climate consultancy projects for corporate clients across various sectors, focusing on topics such as low carbon economy transition, GHG emissions reduction actions and plans, climate and net zero strategies, Science-Based Targets, climate-related financial risks and opportunities assessments, adaptation strategies, etc. Provide technical guidance to project teams, conduct technical reviews, and ensure quality and timely delivery of outputs within budget.
  • Business development: Assist senior sellers and account directors/managers in identifying and pursuing opportunities with existing and new clients. Help develop and pitch proposals, including methodological approaches and descriptions of tasks, budgets and team structures.
  • Technical guidance and capacity building: Guide and build the Southeast Asia ERM climate advisory team through coaching, training, knowledge sharing, and market updates, coordinating with ERM’s global Climate Technical Community to apply best practices, approaches, methodologies and tools in the region.
  • Strategy, marketing and thought leadership: Support the Regional Corporate Sustainability and Climate Change Lead for Southeast Asia in developing regional strategy for climate advisory services, marketing plans and materials; participate in marketing and communication activities, including preparing and co-leading external workshops, webinars, learning sessions, developing thought leadership materials, and reports for a wide audience.
  • Team leadership: Lead a team of 6-8 consultants in Malaysia, including defining goals, priorities, coaching, mentoring, hiring new team members.
Qualifications
  • At least 7 years of experience in climate change mitigation and GHG accounting and/or climate risk assessment and adaptation.
  • Very strong analytical skills and ability to analyze GHG/climate data and derive practical recommendations from analysis.
  • Good understanding of private sector climate needs and the ability to advise executives and board-level representatives on climate-related issues, risks, opportunities, strategies, targets and action plans.
  • Strong written, verbal communication and data presentation skills; ability to present complex information clearly.
  • Ability to work both in a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Capacity and willingness to lead consultancy projects and project teams; ability to multi-task, stay flexible, and meet deadlines.
  • Good command of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and online communication tools. Experience with data management systems and tools is a plus.
  • Work experience in Asia and understanding of regional context is a plus, but candidates with experience in other regions willing to relocate to Southeast Asia are welcome.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Climate Change, Environmental Engineering, Energy, Economics, Sustainability, Finance or related field.
  • Fluency in English. Knowledge of Asian languages is a plus.
