This is a full-time, on-site role for a PR & Corporate Communication – Manager based in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. The individual in this role will be responsible for:
- Developing and executing strategic communications to protect and enhance the corporate reputation and brand equity.
- Responsible for cultivating strong relationships with media, managing crisis communications to mitigate reputational risk, and leading CSR initiatives that foster community trust and stakeholder engagement.
1. Public Relations & Strategic Communications
- Develop PR strategies to strengthen brand recall and loyalty and its flagship brands across Malaysia.
- Prepare and distribute press releases, media statements, and communication materials regarding product launches, corporate milestones, and industry developments.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with key editors in traditional media (Malay, English, Chinese dailies) to ensure consistent coverage in mainstream news.
- Monitor news regarding food security, agriculture, and consumer trends to identify opportunities for corporate positioning.
2. Media & Press Engagement
- Proactively approach and engage media houses, broadcast networks, and lifestyle influencers for product reviews, recipe collaborations, and corporate features.
- Organize and facilitate factory visits, media cook-offs, press conferences, and CSR site visits to showcase company transparency and quality.
- Act as the primary point of contact for all media enquiries, ensuring timely and accurate dissemination of information.
3. Brand Events & Campaign Support
- Collaborate with Marketing and Sales teams to plan and execute high-impact events.
- Manage media attendance and VIP invitations for corporate events to maximize publicity and brand visibility.
- Prepare comprehensive post-event reports, measuring Media Value (PR Value) and coverage sentiment.
4. Content & Messaging
- Align PR messaging with the company’s direction.
- Strengthen the corporate image by crafting narratives/storytelling that align with the company's strategic direction.
- Ensure all external communication adheres to global standards and regulatory compliance.
5. Crisis Communication & Issues Management
- Lead the response to sensitive issues with accurate, calming statements.
- Develop contingency communication plans to protect the company’s reputation during crises.
6. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
- Spearhead CSR initiatives that reinforce company's status as a community-centered organization.
- Liaise with NGOs and government bodies to coordinate effective community outreach programs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Mass Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 to 8 years of progressive experience in Corporate Communications or PR, preferably within the FMCG sectors.
- Proven track record of strong, established relationships with editors and journalists in traditional media (Malay, English, and Chinese dailies).
- Experience in managing high-stakes PR crises, specifically those relevant to food safety or supply chain issues.
- Knowledge of the Malaysian regulatory landscape is an added advantage.
Skills and Competencies
- Excellent command of English and Bahasa Malaysia (written and spoken); proficiency in Chinese Language is strongly preferred for media relations.
- Exceptional copywriting and storytelling skills to translate corporate direction into engaging narratives.
- Strong crisis management skills with the ability to remain calm and strategic under pressure.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative and work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships with media partners, government stakeholders, and internal teams.
