Overview

Malaysia University of Technology – Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur. We are inviting highly motivated and suitably qualified candidates to apply for postgraduate research positions (PhD and Master’s) at the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, located at Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra, Kuala Lumpur.

Research Environment

Our research group aims to establish a world-class Malaysia–Japan collaborative research environment, supported by strong research funding and active academic–industry partnerships. Successful candidates will be immersed in a Japanese-style education and laboratory culture, with opportunities for:

  • Student exchange / research attachment at partner universities in Japan (e.g. Kyushu University, Institute of Science Tokyo, Tokyo City University), and/or
  • Short-term industrial internships in Japan (minimum 2 weeks, sponsored), subject to project availability and performance.
Available Research Projects (Tribology-Related)
  • Polymer composites for bearing applications
  • Surface coating development (electrodeposition / anodizing)
  • Grease lubrication development (industry-collaborative research)
Candidate Requirements
PhD Candidates (Priority)
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing, Tribology, or related disciplines
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English
  • Able to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and be highly self-motivated
  • Full-time student commitment
Master’s Candidates
  • Preferably fresh graduates or candidates with less than one (1) year of working experience
  • Must possess a strong Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with CGPA ≥ 3.00
  • Background in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing, or related disciplines
  • Demonstrated interest in tribology, materials, or surface engineering research
