Job Summary

The SSHE Engineer is responsible for ensuring compliance with all environmental regulations, company policies, and sustainability standards in the Palm Oil Methyl Ester (PME) production facility. This role will focus on monitoring effluent treatment systems, managing scheduled waste, coordinating regulatory reporting, and driving continuous improvement in environmental performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with the Environmental Quality Act 1974 and other relevant environmental regulations.
  • Monitor and report effluent discharge parameters to meet Standard B limits.
  • Oversee daily operations of the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), including aeration tanks, clarifiers, and sludge handling.
  • Track and assess key water quality indicators such as COD, BOD, pH, TSS, and oil & grease.
  • Manage scheduled waste in accordance with regulatory requirements, including labeling, storage, and contractor coordination.
  • Operate and monitor Air Pollution Control Systems (APCS) for scrubbers and boiler chimneys to ensure emission compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval conditions and coordinate third-party monitoring.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and submit environmental performance reports to management and authorities.
  • Support sustainability initiatives including GHG reduction, water conservation, and waste minimization.
  • Conduct environmental awareness and compliance training for operators and contractors.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in environmental management within palm oil, oleochemical, chemical, or refinery industry.
  • Strong knowledge of palm oil operations (biodiesel/PME plant environmental aspects).
  • Hands-on experience with effluent treatment plant (ETP) operations and troubleshooting.
  • Competent in Scheduled waste management, Effluent Treatment System, Emission management for scrubber and chimney, solid waste management.
  • Familiar with DOE licensing requirements, and local authority regulations.
  • Certification in Environmental Officer (CePSWaM – Competent Person for Scheduled Waste Management), CePIETSO (Effluent Treatment System) and CePSO (Scrubber Operation)
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001:2015 EMS and sustainability reporting is an added advantage
