Ocean Freight Pricing and Procurement Manager

About the role: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ocean Freight Pricing and Procurement Manager with freight forwarding background to join Geodis Malaysia Sdn Bhd. This full-time position is based in Subang Jaya, Selangor and will play a crucial role in handling the import operation.

Overview

Role summary and context for the Ocean Freight team, including responsibilities to advise on day-to-day activities, develop new Ocean Freight business, procure and negotiate services, manage RFQ processes, and collaborate with the BD Team and Geodis network.

Responsibilities
  • Advise on key decisions relating to day-to-day activities for the Ocean Freight department, in consultation with the National Ocean Freight Manager and/or Ocean Freight Director, Singapore & Malaysia when necessary.
  • Oversee locally the development of new Ocean Freight business, including commercial policies and future strategic business direction.
  • Procure, source and negotiate ocean freight, haulage/trucking and other ocean-related services for internal stakeholders and Geodis network/partners.
  • Handle global RFQ and network enquiries ensuring timely submission.
  • Work closely with the BD Team and Geodis network to develop new potential accounts and devise strategic approaches to the market.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with network, partners and all trade vendors.
  • Update sell tariff in NG for nominated business secured.
  • Where possible, negotiate credit terms with vendors.
  • Any other responsibility assigned by reporting manager from time to time.
Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in international ocean freight forwarding with a minimum of 10 years’ experience.
  • Working knowledge of the local market (customers, competitors, suppliers) and customs formalities.
  • Familiarity with the financial aspects of the local economy as well as international market conditions and currency factors, and cross-cultural considerations.
  • Operational background is an added advantage.
  • Well versed with INCOTERMS, IMDG and local authority regulations and requirements.
  • Excellent negotiation techniques.
  • Good computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office, etc.
  • High level of integrity and professional independence.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to form and maintain strong relationships internally and externally and engage with stakeholders.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, results-driven environment and remain persistent in meeting day-to-day challenges and goals.
