A leading healthcare institution in Kuala Lumpur is seeking an experienced Nursing Unit Manager to oversee clinical operations, deliver quality patient care, and ensure compliance with nursing standards. The ideal candidate will have a Diploma or Bachelor's in Nursing, post-basic certification, and significant managerial experience. The role focuses on leadership, team collaboration, and maintaining high-quality clinical care across departments.
Managing nursing unit to ensure effective delivery of clinical care, leading and managing of clinical operations and administrative functions in the department to implement organizational objectives, goals, nursing strategies and work collaboratively with other healthcare teams to meet the needs of patients within the laws and regulations, policies and procedure, accreditation, IPSG and MPSG standards, and Professional Code of Conduct to ensure the provision of safe quality care is delivered to all patients.
Ensuring the provision and maintaining of nursing standards, fiscal year and manpower planning, staff training needs professional development, continuous improvement in patient care standards.

Provide a safe environment through efficient implementation of appropriate nursing care/practice in accordance with patient needs.
Maintain high standards of patient care by supervising, directing and coaching staff in the continuing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care activities to achieve optimal patient care.
Implement and review application of evidence-based practice in nursing.
Monitor and produce accurate audit reports on completion of nursing documentation on patient care.
Provide leadership and serve as a resource in the provision of patient care and nursing clinical activities.
Possess specialized skills, knowledge and expertise in practice areas, including a deeper and broader understanding of patient health care needs.
Prioritise, organise and manage own and team’s workload to maintain and promote leadership and managerial quality.
Monitor and ensure all patient assessments are carried out with appropriate Nursing Care Plans (NCP) and discharge plans to meet individual patient needs.
Act as a resource person, direct and supervise less skilled staff to deliver patient care at expected competency; knowledge and skills set to support clinic operations and administration.
Effective and safe delegation of staff allocation based on right skill sets to match patient needs to support department operation.
Implement and monitor clinical and inter‑department process gaps for performance indicators and quality improvement activities to ensure collaborative operational outcomes and improve work processes.
Promote a safe and healthy work environment that demonstrates caring through accessibility of staff/occupational health services, safe facility and work‑life balance.
Collaborate with health/community agencies in monitoring and reporting of communicable diseases, other health programs and referral system.
Monitor, assess and mitigate risk within areas of responsibility, ensure work areas and practices are safe and free from hazards and conform to health, safety and security regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines.
Participate in nursing and hospital committees and/or working group.
Ensure safe par level of inventory consumables, consignments and drugs; storage, rotation and disposal of drugs and vaccines.
Ensure medical equipment/devices are functioning at capacity and adhere to planned preventive maintenance.
Adhere to infection prevention and control (IPC) policies and SOPs, practices guidelines according to national and international recommendations such as standard and isolation precautions.
Monitor staff compliance and adherence to hospital policies and procedures and accreditation standards.
Effective planning, monitoring and optimisation of unit’s operational & capital expenditure as per allocated budget, to achieve efficiency and effectiveness in providing patient care, meeting performance and business objectives.
Optimise staff productivity to meet operational requirements & business objectives.
Ensure team effective use and accurate charging of drugs, consumables, equipment and procedures to avoid wastage and leakage.
Ensure safe par level of inventory consumables, consignments, and drugs; storage, rotation and disposal of drugs.
Effective stock management inventory as per requirements to ensure adequate supply and meet department requirements.
Ensure appropriate records are maintained for reference and audit purposes.
Lead and manage to solve operational problems through strong critical thinking skills, clinical judgement and decision making.
Establish and maintain clear and effective communication processes with teams to achieve departmental goals and meet nursing standards/strategies.
Orientate new staff on joining the team, guide and coach team leaders/mentor staff to deliver safe quality care.
Provide appropriate nursing care reviews and feedback to team members for nursing care improvements/service enhancement.
Share responsibility with Director of Nursing for clinical goal achievements and facilitate implementation of operational/nursing strategies.
Assess patient needs and allocate safe staff assignment based on patient priorities/needs.
Collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure continuity of care across department.
Participate in staff interview and recruitment processes.
Manage staff performance competency/behaviours, disciplinary code of conduct, breach of hospital policies/procedures and rules and regulations with Director of Nursing and Human Resources.
Assume joint responsibility with immediate supervisor on personal/staff education and professional development.
Perform annual performance appraisal to recognize and reward staff performance.
Ensure all staff complete relevant unit core competencies within 6 months and update accordingly to meet staff development requirements.
Ensure all staff complete the company’s mandatory programmes, training and educational activities within the scope of work to comply with the required CPD points.
Conduct and facilitate individual or group CNE/grand round sessions in nursing care areas.
Analyse, plan and implement education and training needs within the department through performance management system and defined career pathway.
Ensure staff are competent, credentialed and privileged to perform specialised procedures and authorize use of specialised equipment.
Conduct probation and annual performance review for improvement plan and/or to recognise/reward staff.
Manage stakeholder expectations in accordance with organisational objectives and standards.
Escalate unresolved matters with appropriate documentation to mitigate risk exposure.
Effective collaboration and liaison on related matters for desired and amicable outcomes.
Implement & monitor related and relevant business continuity initiatives that include business improvement processes, change management and innovation programmes.
Perform relevant ad‑hoc assignments as assigned to support business continuity.
Lead and manage effective utilisation of Hospital Information System and manual processes.
Ensure team compliance with data management system standards and requirements.
Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date clinical nursing documentation in HIS.
Ensure effective analysis and management of data to meet the operations/administrative performance requirements and standards.
Participate to provide feedback and contribute in reviewing system performance standards to enhance system effectiveness.
Ensure privacy, confidentiality and security of patient information.
Minimum of Diploma in Nursing / Bachelor of Nursing.
Must have post‑basic certification in peri‑operative or peri‑anaesthesia.
Minimum of 8 years working as a Staff Nurse in the relevant specialty.
Minimum of 3 years in a managerial position.
Possess the updated Annual Practising Certificate (APC) / BLS.
Good communication skills, initiative and passion for patient care.
Able to adapt and be flexible to changes within the organization.
Able to work with minimal supervision.
A good team player, a detailed and result‑oriented person.
Good communication in English and Bahasa Malaysia. Ability in other language is an added advantage.
Strong knowledge and understanding in hospital/nursing policies and procedures and inter‑departmental clinical/non‑clinical processes & also IT literate.
Analyse and understanding to determine appropriate course of actions in complex situations.
Work independently, exercise creativity, attentive to details and maintain a positive attitude.
Manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and prioritise scheduling of work.
