Job description

The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing work-holding fixtures used in CNC machining operations. This role ensures high precision, efficiency, and repeatability in manufacturing processes. The designer will work closely with machinists, production engineers, and the CADCAM programming team to develop reliable fixturing solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop fixtures, jigs, and work-holding systems for CNC milling, turning, and multi-axis machines.
  • Analyse machining operations to determine fixture requirements based on part geometry, tolerances, and production volume.
  • Collaborate with CADCAM programmers to ensure fixture compatibility with machining strategies.
  • Select appropriate materials, clamps, locators, and supports for fixture development.
  • Create 3D CAD models for fixture components and assembly.
  • Create detailed technical drawings, BOMs, and fixture assembly documentation.
  • Optimize fixture designs for rigidity, repeatability, and ease of loading/unloading.
  • Liaise with buyer and supplier for fixture/jig procurement, fabrication and delivery.
  • Troubleshoot and improve existing fixtures to resolve machining issues.
  • Contribute to lean manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement aimed at efficiency, ergonomics, and cost reduction.
  • Maintain revision control and documentation for all fixture designs.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
