Technical Manager / Senior Technical Engineer
(Main Contractor – Kuala Lumpur)
Reporting Line
- Report to: Project Manager / Head of Engineering Department
Role Overview
The Technical Manager / Engineer is responsible for managing project technical matters from design review through construction. This role ensures drawings, methods, and site execution are practical, compliant, and well-coordinated across consultants, site teams, and internal departments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Solution & Engineering Management
- Lead and review project technical solutions and construction methods
- Provide practical engineering input to support project feasibility and execution
- Act as the main technical coordination point between consultants, site team, and client
2. Drawing Review & Design Coordination
- Review construction drawings and identify clashes, gaps, or buildability issues
- Propose value engineering and technical improvements
- Ensure drawings comply with project requirements and local regulations
3. Construction Technical Support
- Provide on-site technical guidance to site and subcontractor teams
- Resolve technical issues during construction promptly
- Conduct technical briefings and ensure proper method implementation
4. Standards, Procedures & Quality Control
- Develop and update technical procedures, construction methods, and quality standards
- Support standardisation of construction practices across projects
- Ensure technical compliance with company and regulatory standards
5. Team Management & Capability Building (For Managerial Role)
- Lead and manage technical engineers and coordinators
- Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide guidance
- Train and mentor junior technical staff
6. Documentation & Reporting
- Manage technical documentation including drawings, method statements, and design changes
- Prepare regular technical reports and attend project meetings
7. Cross-Department & Tender Support
- Work closely with procurement, QS, construction, QAQC, and safety teams
- Support tender stage by preparing and reviewing technical submissions
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree or above in Civil Engineering
- Construction Engineering
- Mechanical & Electrical Engineering
- or related disciplines
Experience
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience in technical / engineering roles
- Experience with main contractor projects preferred
- Exposure to large-scale or high-rise projects is an advantage
Technical Skills
- Proficient in AutoCAD
- Working knowledge of Revit / BIM
- Familiar with MS Project and construction workflows
- Strong understanding of construction standards, drawings, and site coordination
Soft Skills
- Clear communication with consultants, site teams, and management
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability
- Able to manage multiple technical issues under time pressure
Certification (Advantage)
- CIDB registration
- PMP
- Professional Engineer (PE / Ir.)
