The Remote Locum Doctor provides emergency medical care including stabilizing patients in the event of a medical emergency on project sites which are very remote from high-quality emergency care infrastructure. In addition, the Locum Doctor provides primary healthcare to the site workforce including diagnosis skills, the ability to prescribe a wide range of pharmaceuticals and deliver health talks. The International SOS Doctor is fully supported by a comprehensive management system to significantly enhance on‑site capabilities, starting from a robust recruitment procedure to the back‑up of a team of experienced doctors in case of a major medical emergency.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide initial emergency care, including resuscitation and stabilization of critically ill or injured (trauma) patients, using ALS emergency medical protocols (e.g., ACLS or PHTLS).
Supported by International SOS infrastructure, including:
- Access to 24/7 second medical opinions and case management from qualified doctors.
- Ongoing management activities such as scheduled calls, site visits, and audits to ensure consistent, high‑quality service delivery.
- Adherence to International SOS Standards, Procedures, and Group Practices.
- Regular updates to the client on medical trends and performance, such as increases in communicable disease cases.
Quality Assurance & Administration
- Collaborate with the Medical Services Operations team and Medical Director to optimize quality assurance and ensure effective clinical outcomes.
- Take accountability for maintaining the quality of medical services in line with International SOS standards and guidelines.
- Ensure patient files and medical documentation are maintained to the highest standards.
- Assist with the upkeep, selection, and control of medical equipment and supplies when required.
- Serve as a staging point for medical evacuations when a patient’s condition requires care beyond on‑site capabilities, coordinating such transfers in collaboration with 24‑hour alarm centers.
- Deliver treatment for non‑emergency medical cases in line with International SOS protocols, with physician guidance from alarm centers when additional expertise is required.
- Oversee the management and administration of medical services, including initial audits of equipment and medications.
- Manage medical equipment and supplies, ensuring timely resupply of consumables.
- Implement site health plans and preventive medicine initiatives as necessary.
- Conduct routine health and hygiene inspections of catering, accommodation, and laundry facilities on site.
- Maintain accurate documentation, activity logs, and confidential patient medical records for all activities performed.
- Support the client’s HSE Manager by carrying out assigned administrative tasks.
Qualifications

- Experience in Psychiatry, Perioperative care, Botulinum toxin treatment, Ophthalmology, Maternal‑fetal medicine, Critical care, Endocrinology, Cardiac catheterization, and Vascular interventional radiography
