Sri KDU International Klang is seeking a dedicated and passionate Librarian to inspire the next generation of leaders. The school is an ambitious co‑ed Primary and Secondary school on a modern and spacious campus. We deliver the Cambridge Curriculum culminating in IGCSEs for our older learners at the age of 16. We are part of the XCL Education group of schools with 7 campuses across Malaysia.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Library Operation
- Managing library operation, furniture and equipment.
- Selecting, acquiring and cataloguing library resources using library and information software.
- Submitting Purchase Requests for books and related resources for the library and the Academic department.
- Developing and implementing library policies and procedures in accordance with the school’s mission & vision.
- Developing the collection development by managing collections of books which include fiction, non‑fiction, graphic novels, magazines as well as eBooks;
- Creating, updating and managing electronic and printed information resources.
- Managing and supporting the provision of reading lists and allocating the length of loans.
- Dealing with budgets in relation to your allocated subject areas/departments and, in some cases, purchasing resources.
- Performing duties that support a wide range of library services such as counter duties; (charging/discharging) books and other library resources, updating students and staff registration into Library database, giving a reminder letter to student and staff on any overdue books and fine, etc.
- Keeping up to date with relevant professional developments in the library sector;
- Support with the hosting and administration of events at the school library, including parent and community events.
Educational Programmes
- Plan and organise library and literacy events such as author’s visit & Book Week.
- Plan and organise regular library activities.
- Plan and deliver library lessons for the Primary school.
- Contributing to academic course development and liaising with academic departments in terms of teacher resources management & academic subscription and integrating library into the curriculum.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with academic staff and students;
- Dealing with user enquiries, which may involve one‑on‑one advice sessions.
- Liaising with library colleagues on other campuses.
- Maintaining relationships with external bodies, such as suppliers.
- Participating in professional groups or networks.
Teaching
- To provide high quality, engaging learning as a teacher librarian to promote positive attitudes to reading, a respect for books, information literacy, English language development, including phonics and oracy.
- To offer class supervision on occasions where adult cover is required.
Supervision and Health and Safety
- To closely supervise the library during times when students are present to maintain excellent standards of student safety and wellbeing.
Community Relations
- To promote the library as a community hub for students, staff and parents, by facilitating a tidy, stimulating, welcoming learning environment that celebrates, encourages and supports reading among all ages.
GENERAL
- To carry out any other duties as reasonably directed by the line manager or Campus Principal.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of two years of prior experience as a Librarian or in a related role.
- Bachelor's degree in library science/resource centre management/Information management, and or any related field.
PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS & SKILLS
- Presents both fluent verbal and written English language capacity.
- Possesses a variety of computer competency skills and applications.
- Evidence of positive personal demeanour and those interpersonal skills that aid in daily contact with a diverse multi‑cultural population.
- Ability to work on several tasks simultaneously with interruptions and delegate/collaborate with others to do quality work on tight timelines.
- Commits to utmost confidentiality and exemplifies both personal and professional integrity that will positively reflect both self and the school in the highest manner possible.
