Job summary

A leading shopping complex in Malaysia is seeking a Legal Executive to join their legal team. You will assist in a variety of legal matters, including contract drafting, compliance monitoring, and providing legal support for strategic projects. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor of Laws and at least three years of post-qualification experience in corporate or commercial law. This full-time position is ideal for a detail-oriented and motivated individual who can work in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of Post-Qualification Experience (PQE).
  • Qualified as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya is preferred.
  • Experience in tenancy-related matters and corporate law.

Job description

As a Legal Executive, you will be part of a legal team of 1 Utama City Group. You will be assisting our Legal Counsels with all legal matters related to the Company. You should be comfortable working with broad generalist responsibilities and will be expected to provide assistance/counsel on new or existing strategic projects or products of the Group by giving pro-active, professional, competent, effective and creative legal support.

Responsibilities
  • Assisting the Legal Counsels in supporting the Directors and Legal Team on a wide range of legal work on the businesses within the Group of Companies.
  • Drafting and reviewing letters, agreements, contracts, legal/general documents including but not limited to tenancies, existing and new corporate or commercial projects, products and services of the Company’s businesses.
  • Liaising with tenants, vendors, service providers, contractors and/or internal clients on various enquiries.
  • Cooperating and working closely with other business units within the Group.
  • Monitoring and ensuring compliance of business operations, projects and contractual obligations, and advising on legal implications of contractual terms and conditions with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Working proactively and closely with the Legal Team and external solicitors to provide support on compliance matters, procedures, policies, laws, rules and regulations.
  • Handling and monitoring legal disputes that may arise including liaising with external solicitors.
  • Identifying and managing the risks connected with or resulting from the business strategy and operations.
  • Assisting in overseeing and ensuring regulatory compliance for banking, financial institutions, and e-wallet operations in accordance with Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and applicable banking regulations.
  • Handling and liaising with our IP lawyers in relation to all trademark applications or dispute including keeping proper records of all trademarks of the Group.
  • Attending to issues pertaining to industrial relation/employment contract.
  • Assisting in managing and reviewing company group insurance policies and liaising with insurance company.
  • Ensuring proper management and administration of all legal and compliance related documents including preparing files and reports, and ensuring proper filing of documents.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare legal opinions when instructed.
  • Keep abreast of all relevant changes of the laws and regulations, and advise the Management or the Group of Companies on such changes and impact to the business operations.
  • Assisting in overseeing the legal aspect of special projects where appropriate, e.g., M&A, capital injection, shareholder agreements, special/ad-hoc projects.
  • Any other works/duties as assigned or instructed by the Directors or Legal Counsels from time to time.
Job Requirements
Education
  • Possess Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from a reputable university.
  • Qualified and called as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya is preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of Post-Qualification Experience (PQE), with working experience preferably in private practice, corporate or commercial setting.
  • Experience in tenancy-related matters, general litigation, M&A, regulatory framework, intellectual property law, data privacy law, corporate law, corporate transactions, corporate secretarial, technology-related or loyalty programme will be an advantage.
  • Experience in regulatory compliance for banks, financial institutions, and e-wallet operations, with in-depth knowledge of banking requirements and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) regulations will be an advantage.
  • Positive attitude, passionate, motivated, collaborative, able to work independently and as a team player, ability to perform in a challenging and dynamic environment and can adapt to change.
  • Commercially astute, efficient as well as organized with good analytic drafting, negotiation and client communication skills.
  • Diplomatic and bridge-building personality is essential.
  • Good organization, prioritization and time management skills.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and initiative.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to deliver high-quality work under deadlines.
  • Technologically adept and possess good computers skills such as Ms Office, Ms Excel and Ms PowerPoint.
  • Oral and written proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia. advantage.
