We are hiring a highly skilled Senior Legal Counsel to join the leadership team in Malaysia. You will provide comprehensive legal support across corporate, commercial, compliance, and dispute resolution functions while ensuring regulatory alignment in a fast-paced, tech-driven environment.
This role requires strong experience in Malaysian legal practice, deep knowledge of corporate governance, contract negotiation, and litigation management, with the ability to provide practical, business-focused legal advice.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead identification and mitigation of legal risks associated with Malaysian operations.
- Draft, structure, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts (collaboration, tenancy, dealer agreements, etc.).
- Provide legal research, analysis, and strategic advice to internal stakeholders.
- Manage and resolve legal disputes including mediation and litigation in Malaysia.
- Support regional corporate exercises (M&A, financing, deal structuring).
- Advise on compliance with Malaysian laws (data privacy, employment, industry-specific regulations).
- Develop, implement, and update internal compliance policies and governance frameworks.
- Prepare board materials and ensure compliance with corporate governance requirements.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external counsel to ensure high-quality legal outcomes.
- Provide training and education on compliance, policies, and legal requirements.
Core Legal & Professional Skills Required
- Strong expertise in Malaysian corporate and commercial law.
- Proven track record in contract negotiation and dispute resolution.
- Experience in M&A, joint ventures, and financing transactions.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks: data privacy, employment, industry-specific laws.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to balance risk and growth.
Requirements
- Malaysian citizenship is mandatory.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B) from a leading university.
- Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya with valid practicing certificate.
- Minimum 8 years’ legal experience, including at least 3 years in a reputable Malaysian law firm.
- Highly organized, self-starter with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- High integrity, professionalism, and adaptability in dynamic environments.
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written). Proficiency in Chinese is a plus.
