Lecturer and Guidance Counsellor (80087)

The Canadian International Matriculation Programme (CIMP) at Sunway College is seeking a Lecturer and Guidance Counsellor. The incumbent will play a key role in providing comprehensive guidance and counselling services that promote student well‑being, career exploration, and university readiness. This role will also involve teaching assigned courses within the CIMP curriculum, ensuring high‑quality learning experiences that prepare students for post‑secondary education.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teaching and Lecturer‑centred duties
    • Teach assigned subjects within the programme, according to approved curriculum guidelines.
    • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and effective lessons that cater to diverse learning needs.
    • Assess, record, and report student progress in accordance with academic policies.
    • Collaborate with other lecturers to maintain consistency and high standards in teaching and learning.
    • Participate in academic meetings, moderation exercises, and professional development activities.
    • Provide individual and group counselling to support students’ academic, social‑emotional, and career development needs.
    • Guide students in identifying and achieving post‑secondary goals, including university and scholarship applications.
    • Conduct workshops and information sessions on topics such as career pathways, personal development, study skills, and transition to higher education.
    • Maintain accurate student records and documentation in accordance with institutional and ethical standards.
    • Liaise with parents, teachers, and external institutions to support student success and well‑being.
    • Develop and implement initiatives that foster a positive programme climate and promote mental health awareness.
    • Support student orientation and transition programmes for new cohorts.
  • Student‑centred duties
    • Lead celebrations of student achievement including Student of the Month nominations and ceremonies.
    • Interview and make recommendations of student candidates for Special Scholarships.
    • Lead in the planning, organisation and implementation of visiting/external student workshops and equivalent learning opportunities.
    • Assist in addressing student issues and concerns in coordination with the Deputy Director of Programme with a focus on student attendance and follow up on negligent fee payers.
    • Support school leadership regarding student timetable change requests.
    • Manage content updates for the annual Student Guide and Student Brochure.
  • Other duties
    • Promote good work practice, team‑work, and positive ethos in the Programme.
    • Attend and support CIMP and Sunway Education Group (SEG) marketing events.
REQUIREMENTS / PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counselling, Education, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Recognised professional counselling qualification or equivalent training.
  • Teaching qualification and experience in pre‑university or secondary education setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in student guidance, academic advising, or university placement support.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong commitment to student welfare, confidentiality, and ethical practice.
  • Able to work collaboratively in a multicultural educational environment.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, proficiency in other languages (i.e., Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin) is preferred.
