Role Description
The Interior Design Lead is responsible for leading the design development and delivery of interior design projects from concept to completion. This role works closely with clients, internal teams, and external stakeholders to ensure design intent, functionality, quality, budget, and timelines are achieved across all projects, including overseas assignments where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with clients and internal teams to understand project briefs, functional requirements, and space usage objectives
- Conduct site inspections, building surveys, and feasibility assessments to inform design decisions
- Research design trends, materials, and technical solutions relevant to each project
- Develop design concepts, mood boards, space planning layouts, and schematic designs
- Prepare rough sketches, detailed drawings, and comprehensive design documentation
- Produce detailed design packages including materials, finishes, furniture, lighting, and fixture selections
- Prepare digital presentations for client and management review and approval
- Define project scope, requirements, and cost estimates during the budgeting and planning phase
- Assist in value engineering exercises to align design solutions with budget and project goals
- Negotiate design fees, manage project schedules, and monitor overall timelines
- Coordinate and liaise with consultants, suppliers, and contractors throughout the project lifecycle
- Lead, mentor, and review work produced by junior designers when applicable
- Attend project meetings and provide professional design and technical input
- Supervise site works to ensure design intent, workmanship quality, and compliance with approved drawings
- Monitor site progress and resolve design, coordination, or construction-related issues
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with required quality standards
- Support overseas projects and liaise with international stakeholders as required
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Space Planning to utilize and optimize interior spaces effectively.
- Interior Design expertise, including the ability to create innovative and functional design solutions.
- Minimum 6 years of interior design experience; leadership or senior role experience preferred.
- Strong technical knowledge in design development and site supervision
- Strong Communication skills to liaise with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
- Fluent in Mandarin (spoken and written) to support overseas projects, especially China
- Able to manage multiple projects independently with minimal supervision
- Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field is preferred.
- Proven leadership experience in managing design projects and teams.
- Proficient in design and presentation software (Autocad, SketchUp, 3D tools, Adobe) or related platforms is a plus.
