A pioneering biotech company in Malaysia is seeking Laboratory Assistants/Algal Biotechnologists to join their R&D and Lab team. We specialize in the pilot to commercial-scale cultivation of microalgae through our advanced closed-tank systems, engineering sustainable solutions for a cleaner future.
Role Overview
We are looking for highly motivated and skilled Laboratory Assistants/Algal Biotechnologists to join our R&D and Lab team. This position offers a structured path for professional development, starting with a clear probationary phase followed by contract opportunities.
Compensation & Growth Path
● Probationary Salary: RM 2,300 – RM 2,700.
● Post-Confirmation: A salary increment will be awarded upon successful completion of the probation period and the signing of the formal employment contract.
● Contract Duration: Initial 1–2 year contract, with the possibility of extensions at 1–2 year intervals.
● Permanent Transition: Successful candidates who demonstrate high performance and significant contributions will be considered for a transition to permanent employment.

Key Responsibilities
1. R&D & Technical Execution
● Experimental Support: Assist in the planning, setup, and execution of R&D activities and upscaling projects.
● Algae Culture Maintenance: Manage the health and scalability of algal strains through routine subculturing, media preparation, and stock preservation under strict aseptic conditions.
● Process Monitoring & Sampling: Conduct routine sampling and analysis without jeopardizing the integrity of the algal culture.
● Analytical Testing: Perform instrumental analysis and Quality Control (QC) functions in strict adherence to established quality guidelines.
2. Data Management & Documentation
● Integrity & Standards: Establish and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and analysis specifications to ensure high data integrity.
● Statistical Analysis: Record, organize, and analyze experimental data using statistical tools such as Excel, Google Sheets, and SPSS.
● Research Logging: Maintain comprehensive research logs and detailed photographic records of experimental progress.
3. Laboratory Operations & Maintenance
● Workflow Management: Manage day-to-day laboratory activities to ensure all operations align with project timelines.
● Equipment Care: Operate, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance on research instruments and field equipment.
● Inventory & Logistics: Monitor and update inventory levels for raw materials, reagents, and consumables to fulfill daily operations.
● Housekeeping and Organization: Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organizational and compliance with housekeeping protocols.
● Mentorship: Provide guidance and supervision to interns and students, ensuring adherence to safety standards and project objectives.
● Industry Representation: Support industry exhibitions and conferences through booth setup and professional interaction with visitors.
● General Support: Assist supervisors with ad-hoc duties as required to meet team goals.
Requirements
● Malaysian citizen with a BSc or higher in Biotechnology/Biosciences (Min. CGPA 3.50). Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
● Sound knowledge of algal or bioprocess technology with hands-on experience in microalgal culture and microbiological techniques.
● Excellent English and Bahasa Malaysia (written/spoken) with the ability to translate technical data into clear scientific reports.
● Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook).
● Must possess a valid driving license and own a car. Based in or willing to work in Semenyih.
● Results-oriented and willing to work rotational shifts, on-call, or public holidays (with replacement) for time-sensitive tasks.
● Able to communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
