Job description

Location: Plaza Sentral, Kuala Lumpur

Experience: 1–2 years

Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Law, Business, Economics, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Role Overview

The KYC Analyst will support the Compliance and Risk team by conducting customer due diligence, ongoing monitoring and enhanced due diligence where required. The role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills in Mandarin and English, and the ability to apply regulatory requirements and internal policies to identify and elevate suspicious activity. This is a compliance-focused role with a high degree of teamwork and stakeholder engagement across onboarding, operations, legal and client-facing teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform initial KYC reviews for new customers, including verification of identity, beneficial ownership and source of funds documentation in accordance with internal procedures.
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring and periodic reviews for assigned customers to ensure records remain up to date and any risk changes are captured.
  • Carry out enhanced due diligence on higher-risk customers, politically exposed persons (PEPs), sanctioned entities, and complex ownership structures.
  • Analyse adverse media, sanctions lists and other public information sources to identify potential risks and prepare clear, evidence-based case notes in Mandarin and English where applicable.
  • Escalate suspicious activity and file internal reports to the AML/Compliance officer in line with escalation procedures.
  • Maintain accurate case management and ensure timely closure of KYC tasks within SLA targets; update compliance tracking systems and MIS as required.
  • Work closely with onboarding, operations and relationship teams to obtain required documentation and resolve queries promptly.
  • Keep up to date with applicable Malaysian, regional and international AML/CFT regulations, internal policies and industry best practice; contribute to process improvements and knowledge sharing.
  • Support periodic audits and regulatory inspections by preparing required documentation and responses.
Skills & Competencies
  • Fluent in Mandarin and English (written and spoken).
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to document findings clearly and concisely.
  • Knowledge of AML/KYC principles, sanctions screening and PEP screening.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, manage multiple cases and meet deadlines.
  • Good IT skills and experience with case management or screening tools; confident with MS Office (Excel, Word).
  • High level of integrity, discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
  • Effective communicator and team player with good stakeholder management skills.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1–2 years’ experience in KYC, AML, financial crime, compliance or a related operational role (experience within banking, fintech or professional services is advantageous).
  • Familiarity with Malaysian and international regulatory environment related to AML/CFT is desirable.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., ACAMS) are a plus but not required.
