Kitchen Artist (Pre Opening) – Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur

We are seeking a Chef – Kitchen Artist to support pre‑opening and ongoing culinary operations through exceptional craftsmanship, creativity, and attention to detail. This role focuses on food artistry, buffet presentation, live displays, and decorative culinary elements that enhance the overall guest experience across restaurants, banquets, and events.
Key Responsibilities
- Create visually stunning and high‑quality dishes that meet Hilton’s culinary and brand standards.
- Execute ice carving, fruit and vegetable carving, chocolate carving, and wooden carving for buffets, events, and special occasions.
- Design and produce cake decoration, showpieces, and artistic dessert displays.
- Develop and maintain eye‑catching buffet setups, ensuring strong visual flow, balance, and theme alignment.
- Perform acrylic food display work and decorative culinary installations as required.
Menu & Creative Development
- Support menu development with a strong focus on presentation, creativity, and guest engagement.
- Contribute innovative ideas for themed nights, promotions, seasonal displays, and special events.
- Collaborate with the Executive Chef and culinary leadership on concept creation and tastings.
Kitchen Operations & Pre‑Opening Support
- Assist with daily kitchen operations, ensuring smooth workflow and timely service.
- Support pre‑opening activities including kitchen setup, display planning, recipe standardization, and training.
- Maintain consistency in portioning, quality, and presentation across all outlets.
- Share artistic techniques and presentation standards with junior chefs and kitchen team members.
- Support training on carving, decorative work, buffet styling, and plating standards.
- Foster a culture of creativity, teamwork, and attention to detail in the kitchen.
Hygiene, Safety & Quality Standards
- Follow HACCP, food safety regulations, and Hilton hygiene standards at all times.
- Ensure safe handling of carving tools, equipment, ice, chocolate, and decorative materials.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation and display area.
- Participate in kitchen inspections and quality audits as required.
Qualifications
- Diploma or professional certification in Culinary Arts or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Chef de Partie, Kitchen Artist, or similar role in hotels, resorts, or upscale F&B operations.
- Demonstrated expertise in ice carving, cake decoration, buffet setup, fruit and vegetable carving, chocolate carving, wooden carving, and acrylic decorative work.
- Strong eye for detail, creativity, and visual storytelling through food.
- Pre‑opening experience is a strong advantage.
- Solid knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards, and safe kitchen practices.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and time‑management skills.
- Fluency in English; additional languages are an advantage.
