Job summary

A leading design firm in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a Project Designer to manage and lead design projects from conception to completion. You will be responsible for coordinating with various teams, preparing presentations, and ensuring project timelines are met. Candidates should have a background in architecture or interior design, ideally with at least 4 years of experience in the retail sector. Proficiency in Mandarin, English, and Malay is an asset, as well as skills in design software like AutoCAD and SketchUp.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of project management experience in the retail industry preferred.
  • Fluent in Mandarin, English, and Malay.
  • Experience with contractors and mall operators is a plus.

Responsibilities
  • Able to manage the entire local or overseas project from preparing the scope of works and timeline, to conceptualizing design into a finished project according to corporate identity and standard.
  • To develop a presentation that may include space planning, layout, sketches, rendering, 3D perspectives and material boards.
  • Coordinate with internal design support members and project management teams.
  • Work closely with several internal departments supporting design and technical tasks.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with several departments to ensure the design and complete design progress on time.
  • Meet with mall management on design concept presentation and technical meeting.
  • Manage and lead projects to handover.
  • In charge of overall project progress, analysis, costing and schedule to management as needed.
  • Plan and manage project, including coordinating sub‑contractor, control of renovation and interior design‑related works.
  • Prepare Bill of Quantity for each project and reports after completion.
  • Work closely, coordinate design stage and renovation work with M&E consultant, lighting consultant, structural engineer consultant and contractor.
  • Work closely with several mall management teams to undergo renovation until completion.
  • Conduct final inspection with landlord and local authority prior to work completion to obtain their approval and smooth handover during testing and commissioning.
  • Support store maintenance and ad‑hoc tasks, ensuring all maintenance work progress is up to date and complete as per quotation.
  • All other tasks instructed by superior.
Requirements
  • Diploma/Degree/Master in Architecture or Interior Design is preferred.
  • Preferably 4 years of working experience or project management experience in the retail industry.
  • Fluent in Mandarin, English and Malay would be an asset.
  • Experience in dealing with contractors and mall operators.
  • Must have good budgeting and general math skills, good understanding of design drawings and project documentation.
  • Attention to detail and able to meet deadlines.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, SketchUp, AutoCAD and Adobe software.
  • Fresh graduates are welcome to apply for a Junior Project Designer position.
