Job summary

A leading engineering services company in Malaysia is seeking a Health, Safety, and Environmental Officer. You will ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, develop and implement safety policies, and conduct regular inspections. The ideal candidate should hold a degree in Occupational Safety and Health with at least three years of relevant experience. Strong communication skills in both Bahasa Melayu and English are essential. This role offers a chance to promote a culture of safety and sustainability in the workplace.

Job description

Responsibilities

Ensure the organization complies with local, regional, and international health and safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).

Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures.

Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and assess risk levels.

Identify potential risks to employee safety, health, and environmental concerns.

Carry out risk assessments and suggest appropriate measures to mitigate or eliminate risks.

Investigate accidents and incidents, including near‑misses, to determine the root causes and recommend preventive actions.

Training and Awareness

Develop and deliver health, safety, and environmental training programs to all employees.

Ensure staff are aware of safety procedures, emergency protocols, and the proper use of safety equipment.

Promote a culture of safety within the workplace through campaigns, workshops, and constant communication.

Environmental Sustainability

Ensure the organization complies with environmental laws and regulations (e.g., waste management, pollution control).

Promote sustainable practices such as reducing energy consumption, minimizing waste, and encouraging recycling.

Monitor and control environmental impact, ensuring the organization reduces its ecological footprint.

Reporting and Documentation

Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, audits, risk assessments, accidents, and training programs.

Prepare reports for senior management and regulatory bodies about health, safety, and environmental performance.

Ensure proper documentation and reporting of workplace injuries, accidents, and environmental incidents in compliance with legal requirements.

Emergency Response Planning

Implement, and regularly review emergency response plans for various situations (fire, chemical spills, medical emergencies, etc.).

Execute drills and exercises to ensure all employees are familiar with emergency protocols.

Provide first aid training and ensure the availability of emergency equipment.

Collaborate with senior management to develop an overarching HSE strategy aligned with the company’s goals.

Set clear objectives for health, safety, and environmental performance and track progress toward these goals.

Regularly review and update policies and strategies to ensure continuous improvement.

Communication and Collaboration

Act as the point of contact for all health, safety, and environmental issues within the organization.

Liaise with external bodies, including regulatory authorities, contractors, and suppliers, to ensure compliance with HSE standards.

Communicate HSE policies effectively and encourage feedback from employees.

Incident Investigation and Corrective Actions

Execute investigations into accidents, injuries, or environmental incidents to identify causes and recommend corrective measures.

Ensure that corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence.

Track and monitor the effectiveness of corrective actions taken after an incident.

Continuously assess and improve HSE processes, procedures, and systems.

Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices.

Foster a continuous improvement mindset and drive HSE initiatives within the organization.

Requirements

Possess at least Degree in OSH or related field.

Minimum Three (3) years' experience in this position.

Good interpersonal skills and able to work independently with minimum supervision.

Good communication skill in both Bahasa Melayu and English.

Highly disciplined, responsible and very duty bound.
