This position is responsible for supporting research activities within the organization. The role involves monitoring the performance of Business Units, generating investment ideas and conductive comprehensive market research. The primary goal of the Research function within Group Strategy is to optimize capital allocation, drive strategic decision-making and enhance the Group’s Return on Capital Employed (ROCE).
Key Responsibilities:
Performance Monitoring & Optimization
- Conduct performance analysis of Business Units, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement
- Benchmark the Business Units against industry peers and comparables to identify areas for performance enhancement
- Optimize the Group’s capital allocation by providing strategic insights and recommendations on resource distribution across Business Units
- Recommend initiatives and develop strategies to improve the Group’s overall financial performance, with a focus on enhancing Group ROCE
- Utilize and maintain monitoring dashboards to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide actionable insights to senior management
- Preparation of proposals and papers for presentation to the Board of Directors
Investment Opportunity Identification
- Assist with the identification and evaluation of both inbound and outbound ROCE-accretive investment opportunities that align with the Group’s strategic objectives
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in conducting financial analysis, due diligence and risk assessments for potential investments
- Assist with the development of investment thesis and present recommendations to the Executive Committee
Research & Analysis
- Conduct comprehensive industry and market research to identify megatrends, emerging opportunities and potential risks
- Provide strategic insights into market conditions, competitive landscape and macroeconomic factors that may impact the Group’s business operations and investment decisions
- Collaborate with other departments to integrate market research findings into business strategies and decision-making process
- Any other duties as assigned
Key Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related fields, with a Master’s degree or CFA / Chartered Accountancy qualification as an added advantage
- 4-7 years experience in investment research, analysis, corporate finance, valuation, accounting advisory or related fields. Investment banking, equity research, corporate strategy and financial advisory backgrounds are an added advantage
- Strong analytical acumen, critical thinking and financial modelling capabilities, and robust understanding of corporate finance valuation techniques
- Demonstration of ability to manage concurrent priorities within dynamic and fast-paced environments
- Strong communication, collaborative and cross-functional stakeholder management skills with the ability to articulate and present findings from research and analysis to stakeholders at various levels
- Proficiency in Bloomberg, business acumen, strategic thinking and a proactive approach to problem solving
