General Manager - Legal (Property Developer)
Job Summary
The General Manager, Legal is responsible for overseeing all legal, regulatory, and compliance matters related to the Company’s property development, sales, leasing, and asset management activities. This role provides strategic legal support to management, ensures compliance with property‑related laws and regulations, and manages legal risks across the Group’s developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic legal advice to the Board and management on property development, land matters, and real estate transactions.
- Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents including Sale & Purchase Agreements (SPA), Joint Venture Agreements, land acquisition agreements, leasing agreements, consultancy agreements, and contractor agreements.
- Advise on property development matters such as land acquisition, title issues, strata matters, planning approvals, and conditions imposed by authorities.
- Ensure compliance with property‑related laws and regulations including the Housing Development (Control and Licensing) Act, Strata Management Act, National Land Code, and relevant guidelines.
- Oversee conveyancing matters, project documentation, and liaise with external solicitors, authorities, and stakeholders.
- Manage disputes, litigation, and arbitration relating to property, purchasers, contractors, and joint venture partners.
- Advise on risk management, compliance, and corporate governance matters.
- Develop and implement standard legal templates, policies, and internal controls.
- Support sales and marketing teams on legal documentation and regulatory requirements.
- Lead and manage the Legal team, including performance management and capability development.
- Monitor changes in property and real estate laws and update management accordingly.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB); qualified Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya preferred.
- Minimum 10–15 years of legal experience, with strong exposure in property development and real estate matters.
- In‑depth knowledge of property law, conveyancing, land matters, and housing regulations.
- Experience in handling property‑related disputes and negotiations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Commercially driven with strong problem‑solving ability.
