ROLE PURPOSE
- To undertake Bahasa Melayu (BM) editing and copywriting and English to BM translation of the Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM)’s key communication materials to ensure effective communication of BNM’s policies and protect BNM’s brand and reputation.
- To support the development and execution of strategies/initiatives on cultivating usage of high‑quality BM within BNM and across the financial sector, in collaboration with strategic partners and appointed Pegawai Penyelaras Bahasa Kebangsaan Institusi Kewangan (PP).
- To implement the planned communication strategies to raise awareness and shape positive perception among targeted Universe of Audience (UoA) and stakeholders, garnering support for BNM’s policies and initiatives.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
1) BM Editing, Translation and Copywriting
- Support and carry out the efforts to ensure the accuracy, clarity and consistency of BM edits, translation and/or content in BNM’s communication output with the intended messages prepared in a communication plan, using the standard BM language, flow, presentation and readability, within the prescribed delivery timeframe.
- Support in advising various internal and external stakeholders on the proper and current use of BM terms and phrases, as well as BNM’s in‑house preferred translation and writing style.
2) BM Initiatives for Warga BNM and Financial Sector
- Propose and put into action the strategies and plans to increase the level of proficiency in high‑quality BM among Warga BNM and within financial sector, in collaboration with Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), Asian Banking School (ABS), Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB), Asian Institute of Insurance (AII), industry associations and other relevant agencies.
- Assist in the planning and organisation of key BM‑related events such as Pertandingan Pidato Piala Gabenor BNM, Bengkel Pidato Sektor Kewangan, Penarafan Bintang Bahasa Kebangsaan Sektor Kewangan and Majlis Santai Bahasa.
- Conduct regular engagements with PP to monitor initiatives self‑organised by financial institutions and ensure industry‑wide initiatives are communicated throughout the industry for participation.
3) Supplier Management (Panel Translators and Editors)
- Effective coordination with Centralised Procurement Department on empanelling BM translation and editing suppliers, including annual review of suppliers’ performances and payment for their services.
- Plan and deploy work assignments for editorial and translation by suppliers, ensuring fair workload distribution and timely return of translated/edited materials by suppliers for key publications and ad‑hoc requests.
4) Campaign/Event Coordination and Implementation
- Assist in the planning and execution of communication campaigns or event.
- Track campaign/event timelines, logistics and deliverables to ensure smooth and successful completion of campaign/event.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure timely delivery of campaign/event materials and activities.
- Support the end‑to‑end management of key events such as GDP Press Conferences, Annual Report engagement sessions, and the Sasana Symposium.
5) Communication Advisory for Client Departments
- Assist in the development of content, strategic messaging and campaign directions, aligning with BNM’s objectives to enhance public understanding of its policies and initiatives.
- Plan and execute communications deliverables, including by coordinating with relevant units in JKK to maximise visibility and engagement.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Academic Qualifications: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree or Professional Certificate in BM Translation, Linguistics, Mass Communications, Public Relations or other related disciplines. Major/Minor/Electives in Economics, Finance, Banking or equivalent is an advantage to facilitate understanding of the edited/translated subject matters.
- Experience: Minimum three years of working experience in BM translation and editing. Experience in English‑BM translation and/or editing in areas of economics, finance and banking is an added advantage.
- Language: Minimum intermediate proficiency in BM and English. Proficiency in Mandarin and/or Tamil is an advantage for potential/future role expansion.
