A company specializing in fire safety is seeking a Fire Safety Engineer in Kulai, Malaysia. The candidate will conduct fire risk assessments, design and approve fire protection systems, and ensure compliance with local regulations. Additionally, responsibilities include developing emergency response plans, performing audits, and providing training. The ideal applicant must have a diploma in Fire Protection, at least 1 year of relevant experience, and knowledge of national safety standards. Familiarity with data center operations is preferred.
Conduct fire risk assessments and hazard analyses for buildings, equipment, and processes. • Identify fire hazards and recommend controls or corrective actions.
Design, evaluate, and approve fire protection systems such as fire alarms, sprinklers, hydrant systems, suppression systems, emergency lighting, and smoke control.
Review engineering drawings, layouts, and technical specifications to ensure compliance with fire safety codes.
3. Regulatory Compliance
Ensure all facilities meet local fire safety regulations, standards, and codes (e.g., OSHA, UBBL, NFPA).
Liaise with authorities (e.g., Fire Department/Bomba) for approval submissions, renewals, inspections, and certifications.
4. Emergency Preparedness & Response
Develop and maintain emergency response plans, evacuation routes, and fire drill schedules.
Conduct fire drills, emergency exercises, and training for employees.
5. Fire Safety Audits & Inspections
Perform routine inspections of fire safety equipment and infrastructure.
Investigate fire-related incidents, identify root causes, and propose preventive measures.
6. Project Management Support
Provide fire safety expertise during construction, renovation, or facility expansion projects.
Coordinate with architects, contractors, and consultants to ensure fire safety integration.
Conduct fire safety training for staff, including fire extinguisher usage, evacuation procedures, and first response actions.
Requirements:
1. Diploma or above in Fire Protection or related disciplines
2. At least 1 year of O&M experience in data center fire protection systems; familiar with data center O&M systems and processes; experience managing O&M teams of more than 5 people, with good management and communication skills.
3. Mandarin speaker is an advantage
4. holds fire safety / occupational safety qualifications compliant with Malaysian requirements, such as NFPA certification, FIA certification, NIOSH-certified Safety and Health Officer (SHO), or NEBOSH International Certificate.
5. Familiar with Malaysia’s Uniform Building By-Laws (UBBL) and BOMBA regulations and standards.
6. Capable of fault diagnosis and troubleshooting for data center fire protection systems, including gas suppression systems, pre-action systems, and sprinkler systems
7. Proficient in Office software and CAD. Has a basic understanding of DCIM, DCOM, BA, BMS, and SCADA systems.
