Position: Finance Controller

Role Overview

The Finance Controller is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the full spectrum of financial management for the hotel. This position ensures financial integrity, regulatory compliance, strong internal controls, and provides strategic financial insights to support operational and business decisions. The role works closely with the General Manager, department heads, owners, auditors, and corporate stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
  • Oversee the full set of accounts including GL, AP, AR, bank reconciliations, accruals, and prepayments
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
  • Ensure timely month-end and year-end closing in accordance with accounting standards
  • Analyze financial performance, variances, and trends; provide actionable insights to management
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cost Control
  • Lead annual budget preparation and rolling forecasts
  • Monitor departmental budgets and control operating costs
  • Partner with HODs to improve cost efficiency and financial discipline
  • Track CAPEX planning, approval, and fixed asset management
Compliance, Audit & Governance
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements (SST, income tax, EPF, SOCSO, EIS, withholding tax where applicable)
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax agents, bankers, and regulators
  • Maintain strong internal controls, SOPs, and audit-ready documentation
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, hotel brand standards, and owner requirements
Cash Flow & Treasury
  • Manage cash flow planning, cash controls, and banking relationships
  • Oversee credit control, AR ageing, and collections
  • Review payment cycles and vendor management
Hospitality-Specific Finance Operations
  • Oversee daily revenue reporting, night audit reviews, and revenue integrity
  • Work closely with Revenue, Front Office, F&B, Procurement, and Operations teams
  • Monitor payroll costs, productivity ratios, and labor cost percentages
  • Support pricing, promotions, and revenue optimization initiatives
Leadership & Team Management
  • Lead, coach, and develop the finance and accounts team
  • Set clear KPIs and performance expectations
  • Drive process improvements, automation, and system efficiency
Requirements & Qualifications
Education & Professional Background
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA, or equivalent are highly preferred
Experience
  • Minimum 7–10 years of finance and accounting experience
  • At least 3–5 years in a senior finance role within the hospitality or hotel industry
  • Strong exposure to full set of accounts, budgeting, audit, and statutory compliance
Technical & System Skills
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards and hotel accounting practices
  • Experience with hotel PMS, POS, and accounting systems
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial analysis tools
