Overview
The Finance Executive (Credit Control) is responsible for managing customer credit, billing, and collections to ensure timely recovery of outstanding payments and healthy cash flow for HG Services. This role oversees debtor accounts across the company, prepares accurate accounts receivable records, and works closely with the Commercial and Project Teams to monitor credit exposure and collection status. The incumbent will actively follow up on overdue invoices, prepare monthly Statements of Account (SOA), and assist in chasing outstanding payments via email and other communication channels to ensure collections are made on time, in line with construction project schedules and contractual terms.
Key Responsibilities
- Credit Control & Debtor Management
- Monitor and manage debtor accounts across all departments
- Ensure invoices are issued accurately and promptly in accordance with agreed terms
- Perform regular follow-ups on overdue payments via calls, emails, and reminders
- Prepare and maintain accounts receivable ageing reports
- Liaise with customers to resolve billing discrepancies, payment delays, and disputes
- Ensure collections comply with approved credit terms and payment schedules
- Escalate long-outstanding or high-risk accounts to management for action
- Accounts Receivable & Reconciliation
- Reconcile customer accounts to ensure balances are accurate and up to date
- Match invoices, receipts, credit notes, and customer statements
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies between system records and customer confirmations
- Maintain proper documentation and audit trails for receivables and collections
- Cash Flow & Reporting Support
- Support the monitoring of cash flow and working capital
- Provide regular updates on collection status to management
- Assist in preparing monthly AR reports and summaries
- Highlight potential collection risks and payment delays
- Coordination & Compliance
- Work closely with operations, project, and sales teams to ensure billing accuracy
- Ensure compliance with company policies and internal control procedures
- Support auditors and management during audits when required
- Other ad hoc duties associated with assisting the Accounts & Finance team
Key Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in credit control or accounts receivable, preferably in the construction industry
- Strong hands-on experience in debtor follow-up and collection
- Confident, firm, and professional in dealing with customers on payment matters
- Good communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to maintain positive working relationships while enforcing credit terms
- Detail-oriented with good record-keeping skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience using the Infotech accounting system will be an added advantage
