Job summary

A technology company in Malaysia is seeking a Trade Compliance Specialist to manage export compliance activities. Responsibilities
  • Interpret and apply U.S. and international export control and sanctions regulations, including the US BIS Classification, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
  • Prepare, submit, and manage export license applications, commodity classification requests (e.g., ECCN, HTS), and other required documentation to government agencies such as the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS).
  • Conduct denied party screening and investigations of customers, suppliers, and other third parties to identify potential end-use or end-user restrictions and ensure sales are not made to sanctioned individuals or entities.
  • Perform internal audits and assessments of export activities and records to identify areas of non-compliance, implement corrective actions, and maintain a thorough audit trail for authorities.
  • Develop, implement, and update internal policies, procedures, and work instructions related to export compliance.
  • Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders, such as sales, logistics, operations and R&D teams, on export compliance requirements and best practices.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams and external partners (freight forwarders, customs brokers, legal counsel, government agencies) to resolve discrepancies and ensure timely and compliant shipments.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records in compliance with regulatory record-retention requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Science, business, law, engineering, or international affair or has an equivalent experience in the industry.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills to provide guidance and conduct investigations.
  • 5 years of working experience in trade compliance preferably in the semiconductor industry.
  • Strong understanding of export control laws and regulations, particularly EAR and ITAR for semiconductor products.
  • Proficiency in classification systems (e.g., HTS, ECCN).
  • Experience with compliance tools and software.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
