Job summary

Job description
Responsibilities
  • Prepare instrumentation specifications for all instruments, controls and systems equipment for approval of the Lead/Senior Instrument Engineer on the assigned project.
  • Size all instrumentation, controls, equipment and in-line instrument components for approval of the Lead/Senior Instrument Engineers on the assigned projects.
  • Coordinate drafting activities with the drafting coordinator and lead designers.
  • Assist the Lead/Senior Instrument Engineer to liaise with the clients for the assigned work activities and keep the team fully informed.
  • Write instrument requisitions from data supplied by the process department for the Lead/Senior Instrument Engineers.
  • Analyze vendor quotations, make recommendations on bid tabulations and write purchase order requisitions for the selected instruments for approval.
  • Prepare instrument index, database and other instrumentation lists for approval of the Lead/Senior Instrument Engineer.
  • Assist in vessel ID checks, number instrument on P&IDs and keep the Lead/Senior Instrument Engineer current with respect to instrumentation.
  • Assist in the preparation of instrument layouts, installation details, control room and panel layouts, graphics, logic diagrams, wiring diagrams, hook‑up diagrams, mounting details, cable schedules, loop diagrams, block diagrams, schematics and material take‑off.
  • Assist in the preparation of the P&IDs and utility flow diagrams and cause‑and‑effect matrix.
  • Check, approve and combine comments on vendor drawings for approval.
  • Assure compliance with project specifications, standards, control estimates, man‑hour estimates and project schedules.
  • Prepare change notices for approval of the Lead/Senior Instrument Engineer when the design deviates from the control estimate and design requirements.
  • Witness performance tests by vendor and inspect instrumentation as required.
  • Provide necessary assistance during construction and commissioning in the field.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Post Graduate Advanced Diploma in Engineering (Electrical / Instrumentation / Mechanical / etc.) or equivalent.
  • Good command of English & Bahasa Malaysia.
  • Thorough working knowledge of codes and practices applicable to the design and familiarity with software used for related analysis and design activities.
  • Ability to perform engineering tasks with minimum guidance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills at all levels.
