Early Years Educator & Assistant Teacher (Michelia Early Years)

Michelia by Cempaka International Early Years centres are an educational experience that is a Reggio‑inspired concept of learning. Our schools have a strong sense of community and are very much one big family. We welcome those who wish to engage in a vibrant, culturally diverse learning community. Michelia by Cempaka International is seeking a skilled, passionate, and culturally competent individual to teach an inquiry‑based, project‑rich curriculum to early years and kindergarten students in a positive, collaborative, child‑centred environment. The teacher will provide classroom instruction following a Reggio‑inspired method. In addition to the qualifications detailed below, the successful early years/kindergarten teacher candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills in English, strong organisational skills, and the ability to support the mission, vision, and identity of Michelia’s principles and ethos.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Collaborate with colleagues around curriculum, student support and program development
  • Design curriculum responsive to children’s prior knowledge, experience and interests.
  • Develop curriculum for theme‑based learning
  • Develop curriculum for project‑based learning
  • Implement reading/literacy programme (Jolly Phonics)
  • Implement numeracy/mathematics programme (Cambridge)
  • Utilise the arts as methods for developing and communicating student thinking.
  • Maintain child‑centred environment that fosters thinking and community.
  • Cultivate an enthusiasm for learning in students.
  • Use informal and formal assessments to guide instruction.
  • Communicate with families about child progress and early childhood development.
  • Maintain the child’s portfolio and record of learning.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA or equivalent in early education
  • Two years’ classroom teaching experience
  • Strong background in social‑emotional education, effective early literacy and math practices
  • Intercultural competence, ability to teach diverse groups of students effectively; ability to interact appropriately with a diverse array of students, co‑workers, family members
  • IT skills: general digital literacy, proficiency in MS Office Suite, web applications including Google Suite, Zoom or Skype, etc. as appropriate to job duties.
  • Ability to pass a background check
