Job Title

Driver (Local Agent Group V)

Overview

The European Union Delegation to Malaysia is seeking a Driver for its Administration Section. The Delegation works closely with the embassies and consulates of the 27 EU Member States. The Driver will provide driving services for the Delegation’s executive and service vehicles on a rotational basis and assist with general administrative support tasks under the supervision of the Head of Administration.

Salary & Benefits

This is a two‑year fixed‑term contract, with a base salary starting at MYR 3,002.00 (Group V – Step 5). A competitive benefits package is offered, including annual leave, public holidays, medical insurance and a retirement savings plan. Overtime will be authorised and compensated in accordance with Article 11(4) of the LA‑CE, taking into account mandatory rest‑period requirements for drivers under local law.

Responsibilities
  • Drive Delegation staff and visitors safely and in full compliance with traffic regulations, ensuring passenger safety and proper use of vehicles
  • Clean, maintain and conduct basic vehicle checks (tyre pressure, battery, lights, etc.)
  • Check and maintain fluid levels (fuel, engine oil, radiator water, brake fluid, power steering fluid, etc.)
  • Manage vehicle registration procedures and related administrative formalities
  • Update vehicle documentation, including maintaining the vehicle logbook
  • Deliver messages, mail and the diplomatic pouch, ensuring secure handling in accordance with Delegation procedures
  • Perform basic handyman duties (minor office maintenance, purchasing items and supplies, collecting/delivering documents or small goods, etc.)
  • Assist in administrative support tasks, including customs clearance procedures, protocol‑related logistics and occasional receptionist duties
  • Assist in the organisation of meetings or events inside or outside the Delegation
  • Perform any other tasks in the interest of the service, as required
Minimum Requirements
  • Secondary education
  • At least 5 years of professional driving experience with a valid Malaysian Class D driving licence (or equivalent for passenger vehicles)
  • Good command of English and Bahasa Malaysia (written and spoken)
  • Right to reside and work in Malaysia
  • Medically fit to perform the required duties
Additional Selection Criteria
  • Excellent knowledge of Kuala Lumpur traffic patterns, main routes and key government/institutional buildings
  • Thorough knowledge of safe driving practices and basic vehicle mechanics
  • Experience as a driver in a diplomatic mission, governmental institution, international organisation or similar environment in Malaysia
  • Experience handling administrative procedures related to diplomatic privileges and immunities
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to work with Windows applications
  • Strong communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia
  • Capacity to work in a multicultural environment with good interpersonal skills
  • Strong sense of initiative, responsibility, organisation, punctuality and discretion
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure while fully respecting traffic laws
  • Flexibility to work long‑distance routes, overtime and overnight shifts (especially during high‑level visits)

The successful candidate will be subject to a medical check and, where applicable, a background check before recruitment is confirmed.

After the application deadline, eligible applications will be reviewed by the Selection Committee. Depending on the number of applications, successive phases may include short‑listing based on the cover letter and CV, documentary proof of education, professional experience and driving licence, a practical driving assessment, and a short written test. The three best‑ranked candidates will be invited for an interview.
