Sunway University is seeking a Director to oversee the strategic growth, development, and digital transformation of Sunway University’s online and blended learning portfolio. This role provides strategic leadership in shaping and delivering the University’s digital education vision, expanding programmes and student growth, and ensuring academic quality and compliance with accreditation standards. Positioned at the intersection of education, technology, and business development, the Director will drive scalable, market-relevant offerings supported by strong academic governance and technology-enabled learning excellence.
Develop and champion the strategic vision and business roadmap for Sunway University Online, ensuring alignment with institutional strategies and digital transformation goals.
Lead the University’s digital learning agenda by designing and scaling innovative, pedagogically sound, and commercially viable education models while articulating market differentiation and value proposition.
Establish and monitor key performance indicators for growth, academic quality, learner outcomes, operational efficiency, and financial sustainability, reporting progress to senior leadership.
Translate strategy into actionable plans, policies, governance frameworks, and performance metrics for online and blended learning.
Develop institutional guidelines for digital education quality, compliance, accessibility, and data governance, while managing risks related to technology, data privacy, and cybersecurity.
Coordinate digital education policy alignment across faculties, centres, and regulatory bodies, ensuring clear roles, responsibilities, and communication channels.
Implement a roadmap to strengthen in-house capabilities for marketing, recruitment, learner success, analytics, and course production.
Lead market intelligence, competitor analysis, and demand forecasting to guide programme development, positioning, pricing, and revenue growth through portfolio expansion, recruitment strategies, and industry engagement.
Build and maintain strategic partnerships with universities, industry, EdTech companies, accreditation bodies, and government agencies to support programme delivery and innovation.
Mentor, guide, coordinate and oversee the team to ensure delivery of high quality, market relevant and academically rigorous curricula for the online and blended programmes.
Collaborate with faculties/ schools/ centres and industry stakeholders in designing interdisciplinary and professional programmes.
Develop and deliver professional development and training for academic staff on effective design and delivery of online and open distant learning programmes, and integration of blended and technology-enhance learning approaches within conventional programmes.
Provide strategic oversight of digital learning ecosystems and technologies and lead the adoption and integration of innovative Edtech to enhance learner experience.
Ensure infrastructure and tools are scalable and aligned with best practices.
Develop and lead quality assurance and evaluation frameworks to monitor academic standards, learning experience and outcomes and operational excellence.
Leverage on data-driven insights and learner analytics for continuous improvement.
Report on performance, i.e. academic quality indicators, financial outcomes, operational efficiency and student satisfaction metrics.
Champion a learner-centric culture that ensures accessibility, personalisation, and comprehensive support across the learner lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, progression, and completion.
Coordinating academic advising, counselling, employability services, and alumni engagement to drive targeted interventions using analytics-driven approaches to monitor engagement, retention, and performance.
Lead the operational execution of online and blended learning delivery, ensuring cross-unit coordination, adherence to timelines, and efficient resource management.
Oversee budgets, performance dashboards, reporting processes, and risk management to ensure transparency, accountability, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
Act as a senior institutional representative in academic, industry, government, and professional engagements, championing Sunway University Online’s vision and partnerships globally while enhancing visibility, impact, reputation and influence.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders for internal alignment and represent the University in external forums, conferences, and networks to drive alignment, visibility, and share best practices.
Build and lead a high-performing team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, service excellence and professional growth while providing mentorship and development pathways for the team.
Drive change-management initiatives to embed digital-first and blended-learning practices across faculties, ensuring staff buy-in, consistent standards, and institutional excellence.
Master’s degree in Education, Educational Technology, Business, Management, Digital Learning, or related field. Candidates with a PhD is an added advantage.
Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in digital education, online programme management, or academic leadership, and performance management.
Proven track record in building and scaling online/ODL programmes, driving commercial growth, and leading digital transformation.
Experience with regulatory compliance, quality assurance frameworks, and accreditation processes for online learning.
Analytical, data driven and though leadership in pedagogy, technology, and quality assurance.
Strong strategic vision and execution capability, with commercial experience and business development acumen.
Ability to build partnerships across universities, industry, EdTech, and government, with influential communication skills.
Experience in international markets, partnering development, global learning recruitment and evidence of success in building on internalising online education capabilities.
