A vibrant hospitality operator in Kuala Lumpur seeks an experienced Community Engagement Lead to manage events and enhance the guest experience. The ideal candidate has 2-3 years of event management experience and is energetic and passionate about creating engaging social experiences. Responsibilities include planning community events, managing public relations, and overseeing digital content. This role requires flexibility in working hours, including weekends and holidays.
Lead and manage events, community engagement, and digital presence to create an inclusive, vibrant, and memorable guest experience. Oversee social activities, PR, content strategy, volunteer programs, and online reputation to ensure the brand’s community vibe is consistently delivered both on-ground and online.
The Mingle Group is a diversified hospitality and F&B operator. Since 2016, Mingle has grown to become the largest boutique backpacker operator in Malaysia with 4 hostels and more than 300 beds in Kuala Lumpur. Mingle also operates 5 cafes and 2 bars, employing over 80 people.
Since our opening of the flagship Mingle Chinatown Kuala Lumpur in Sept 2016, followed by Mingle Highstreet in May 2019, The Manor in November 2022 and Mingle Lekiu in December 2025, we have hosted more than 200,000 guests from all over the world.
95% of Mingle guests are foreign travelers with the majority from the EU, UK and Australia.
Our vision is to create a Community of Global Travelers and a network of social and quality hostels in the region. Therefore, a candidate with similar global travel adventure and backpacking experience is desirable but not essential.
Plan, organize, and execute events, outings, gatherings, and social activities.
Actively engage participants to foster a lively and inclusive environment.
Coordinate activities responsibly, including bar- or alcohol-related events.
Collaborate with operations and other teams for smooth execution.
Develop creative programs to enhance overall community experience.
Serve as a friendly point of contact during events and activities.
Build positive relationships and foster a strong, vibrant community culture.
Support partnerships and collaborations with external groups when needed.
Website & OTA Optimization: Write, manage, and update content across the company website and Online Travel Agencies (Booking.com, Hostelworld, Expedia) to reflect current offerings and vibe.
Rate & Info Parity: Audit OTAs to ensure accuracy, consistency, and up-to-date information.
Social Content Strategy: Develop a content calendar highlighting the 'Mingle' atmosphere to attract the right audience before booking.
Review Response Strategy: Monitor feedback and craft professional, brand-aligned responses to both positive and negative reviews.
Operational Reporting: Analyze review trends monthly and collaborate with operations to resolve recurring issues.
Crisis Mitigation: Act as the first point of contact for sensitive online feedback, turning detractors into promoters where possible.
The 'Mingle' Script: Develop internal communication plans and scripts for Front Desk Officers to actively facilitate social interaction.
Culture Training: Coach staff to deliver the 'Mingle' social atmosphere both verbally and non-verbally, ensuring the on-ground vibe matches the online promise.
Recruitment Pipeline: Create and manage volunteer job postings (e.g., Worldpackers, Workaway), conduct interviews, and select candidates who embody the brand’s energy.
Onboarding & Alignment: Build rapport with volunteers, ensuring clarity of duties and social inclusion values.
Performance & Vibe Check: Manage volunteer schedules and hold weekly check-ins to ensure positive contribution to the guest experience.
Create and post engaging content for events and programs across social media platforms.
Capture picture and videos during events for promotional use.
Support social media engagement to increase awareness and participation.
Assist with event planning, scheduling, budgeting, and post-event reporting.
Coordinate logistics, vendors, and materials for events.
Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
2 - 3 years of relevant experience in event management, social programs, hospitality, or community engagement.
Diploma or higher qualification in Hospitality, Event Management, Tourism, Marketing, Communications, or related fields.
Comfortable with alcohol- and bar-related activities.
Proven experience in organizing and actively participating in events, outings, and social activities with strong engagement.
Experience in Scouting, societies, clubs, or community organizations is a plus.
Energetic, outgoing, and confident personality with strong interpersonal skills.
Passionate about connecting people and creating vibrant social experiences.
Required to work according to event timings, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
