Job Purpose
The Civil Engineering Technician is responsible for supporting site engineers in supervising construction activities, performing surveying and setting‑out works, ensuring quality control, maintaining technical documentation, coordinating with contractors, and monitoring compliance with safety and engineering standards at the project site.
Key Responsibilities
- A. Site Supervision & Monitoring
- Monitor daily construction activities to ensure work complies with approved drawings, specifications, and method statements.
- Assist the Site Engineer in coordinating tasks with contractors and subcontractors.
- Verify alignment, levels, and dimensions before and during construction.
- Provide on‑site support in resolving technical or operational issues.
- B. Surveying & Setting‑Out
- Conduct basic surveying tasks and assist surveyors with setting‑out points, levels, boundaries, and structural locations.
- Operate surveying instruments such as Auto Level, Theodolite, and Total Station.
- Confirm site measurements and compare them with approved drawings.
- C. Quality Control (QC)
- Inspect workmanship to ensure compliance with engineering and project quality standards.
- Perform on‑site tests, including:
- Concrete slump test
- Soil compaction test
- Rebar inspection
- Formwork checks
- Verify that delivered materials comply with project specifications and approval sheets.
- D. Technical Support & Documentation
- Prepare and update site documentation, including:
- Daily Progress Reports (DPR)
- Site diaries
- Inspection checklists
- Assist in preparing and submitting:
- As‑built data
- Work Inspection Requests (WIR)
- Request for Information (RFI)
- E. Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with main contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and suppliers to ensure smooth execution of work.
- Participate in daily/weekly site meetings and report progress, issues, or delays.
- Communicate design clarifications and technical updates between site and office teams.
- F. Safety & Compliance
- Observe and report unsafe conditions or unsafe acts at the site.
- Support implementation of safety procedures and ensure PPE compliance among workers.
- Assist in environmental, regulatory, and statutory requirement compliance.
- G. Material Control
- Check, record, and verify incoming construction materials.
- Ensure proper storage for materials such as cement, rebar, aggregates, and formwork.
- Monitor material usage to reduce wastage and report discrepancies.
- H. Site Problem‑Solving
- Identify issues related to drawings, site conditions, materials, or workmanship.
- Provide inputs and suggestions to the Site Engineer for corrective action.
- Follow up on implementation of approved corrective measures.
Qualification Requirements
- Diploma or Certificate in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, or related field.
- Basic knowledge of engineering drawings and construction methods.
Working Experience Requirement
- 1–3 years of working experience in construction site operations is preferred.
- Fresh graduates with relevant technical training may also be considered.
Technical Skills & Competencies Requirement
- Proficient in using surveying instruments (Auto Level, Theodolite, Total Station).
- Ability to read and interpret civil/structural drawings.
- Familiarity with QC procedures and construction materials.
- Basic computer skills (MS Office, email, reporting tools).
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Able to work under minimal supervision.
- Problem‑solving and analytical thinking.
- Discipline, punctuality, and safety awareness.
